Other phones are unlocked in about 48 hours but it does take longer for an iPhone to be unlocked. The reason for this is that Vodafone aren't responsible for the unlocking of the phone - Apple are. When you request the iPhone to be unlocked, Vodafone have to send the request off to Apple to action and this process typically takes about a week or so to do. You can verify if it has been unlocked by putting another carrier's SIM card in the phone and connecting it to iTunes. A message will pop up telling you if it has or hasn't been unlocked.

Its just the misleading information i have been given. There has been two requests now for this i phone to be unlocked and it is nearly a week. Do you know from experience how much longer i should be waiting and will i just recieve an email from vodafone or do i have to keep checking it daily?

I would leave it a bit longer and then try plugging it in to iTunes to see if it is unlocked. Sometimes you will get an email confirming that it has been unlocked. If you post the reference number of the request on this forum - one of the Vodafone Team cna take a look at it for you.

Ive just tried it plugged into i tunes and nothing the request code i have is 9412213 and just sent my friend a message to get hers from Friday request for unlocking
If the unlocking request is accepted your friend may not necessarily receive and email advising her so, she will however receive an email if the unlock is declined.
The only way to check for sure if it is unlocked is to connect to iTunes with a non UK Vodafone sim card in it. A number of people have however reported a problem when trying to complete the unlocking abroad as they have found that they need to be in the iTunes for the region that their account is registered in.

I managed to get the refrence number from her which is 9365947 is there anyone from vodaphone that can look into the process of this as i have no more credit to call from australia.
This was sent last friday and since then there has been another one sent. Refrence see above
