Is there a way to set the order of preference on iPhone 4 for access to the Internet.

Order being Personal Wifi, BT Openzone then WAP?

The iPhone 4 (and others for that matter) will try to use WiFi before heading onto the cellular network.
When I'm out and about I normally switch off WiFi and rely on the Excellent network coverage. This stops the 'select wifi' messages' and also preserves my battery.
There's no way to set the preference, but this is the closes way to do it..

I've been looking out for something similar but have yet to find anything this automated to configure preferences from one menu / app.

It's not a direct answer but if you haven't already it might be worth experimenting with apps like BTFON Wi FI (for BT hotspots) and some of the many WiFi finder apps (Wi-Fi Fast Connect etc.) to help give you the heads up on wifi hotspots and help cut down on 3G data

not entirely true as I have had WAP usage on my phone while I was at home. My Wifi was connected at the time.

So had to switch the WAP off.

With the Nokia e71 I have an option to chose which one I want to use. So was wondering (if not able to preference set) is

a prompt that can be recieved before connecting.

The only other way I have seen something like this in operation is when an iPhone device has been jailbroken. Through an add-on called SB Settings (SB-SpringBoard). This would allow you to toggle off wi-fi or even data network from the homescreen. However, the Mods might not appreciate talk of jailbreaking on the Forum, so you would need to look elsewhere on the web for advice on this, if you want to chance risking your warranty.

For now have just switched off the WAP. So if no WIFI available then get a prompt and I can switch it on.

Just need to figure out a short cut to switch it on.

How do you turn WAP off ?

My iPhone was electing to use home WiFi for first week now does not try WiFI even although phone WiFi on

.Had WiFi connection problems kept asking for password then saying invalid.now just goes straight to WAP

Very difficult to tell which service connected to

Thanks for your post here.

All you need to do is go to :-

Settings

General

Network

Mobile Data 'Off'

That'll turn your WAP off and only leave you with WiFi data connectivity.
