Iphone 4 successfully activated but no 3g signal

Hi all,
This morning my new IP4 arrived and I've activated it via Itunes. The microsim has been activated and the old standard one is now inactive. From what I can see all of the phone's functionality works except I'm getting no 3g signal at all, just the Edge signal is detected. I've previously had a 3g, the wife has the 3gs and where I live there is good 3g coverage.
Is there a known issue where it can take a while for a 3g network to be detected after microsim activation?
TIA,
Pete

Update from my end. Stoopid boy as I am, 3G works fine on this phone. It just so happens that I live in a poor 3G area. I drive a quarter mile away and it picks it up.

Re: Iphone 4 successfully activated but no 3g signal

Hi michaelwoods200

Firstly welcome to the new look Vodafone eForum. :smileyhappy:

That's a strange occurence.:robotsurprised:

Are your other services effected in anyway, voice, text etc?

I'd firstly suggest you switch off and restart your device, and see if this helps. Failing this check your data settings, and ensure they are correct. You can check this by looking at our iPhone help pages.

Let me know if this doesn't resolve your issue, and I'll assist further.

Regards

Re: Iphone 4 successfully activated but no 3g signal

Hi michaelwoods200

I've had a look at the network and can see the local site in your area  (674) is currently down.  Engineers are aware and a case has been raised under reference 2150886

I will keep an eye out on this for you.

Thanks

Hi michaelwoods200

I do not have any further information on this fault at this moment in time. :smileysad:

Our engineers are aware, but there's no ETA for a resolution I can give as yet.

Re: Iphone 4 successfully activated but no 3g signal

Hi michaelwoods200,

I've just checked the site and can see that the building that houses the site is due to be demolished soon, as such a temporary site is due to be commissioned. I don't have a timescale for resolution, however I'll ensure it's added to the Faults Board the next time it's updated. If you subscribe to the relevant thread then you'll be alerted once it's back up and running.

Re: Iphone 4 successfully activated but no 3g signal

It's not always possible to just throw a new mast up, if the building had been earmarked for demolition for a while the coverage techies will have been looking into alternatives.  However if the building has been condemned due to fire, flood etc there may have been little/no warning at all.

On the subject of how the mods knew your local site when you registered you entered your postcode.  Only the administrators on the forum can see it so they use that to ascertain which cell site covers your area.
