iPhone 4 and 4S

Ive not managed to get personal hotspot working yet, I am on a iPhone sim only tariff which apparently has tethering enabled, but the setting on iPhone just throws me into sloop of going to Vodafone website to enable it, which in turn asks me to contact cs.
I'm using apn as Internet , with user wap, pass wap

Any ideas?

I'm on a full blown pay monthly tariff, but my APN is different.

It is: wap.vodafone.co.uk

Might be worth a try.

Username and password is the same.

Hi, tethering on an iphone doesnt use the internet APN or the wap.vodafone.co.uk apn. It uses a completly seperate APN (called ACCESS) that you need to check with vodafone is live on your number. If it is, then the settings for this APN are not viewable on the handset, so you need to connect up to itunes and perform a restore to get these hidden carrier settings installed.

Also Murphwiz2, if your using the "INTERNET" apn, the username and password are "web" not "wap". The wap.vodafone.co.uk apn uses "wap" for username and password.

Thanks for replies, have also tried the wap.vodafone apn, it is enabled on my account according to customer services.
So this restore idea, update doesn't show anything, so I need to do a full restore?

A full restore may be worth doing.

Tip for you though, make sure you do a full backup first.

After restore, set it up as a new phone i.e. don't restore from a backup.

Then try it and see if it works.

If it doesn't work then you might as well restore again and restore your backup. Then you'll be back to square one but you won't have lost anything.

Did a virgin restore, no dice, still asks me to setup personal hotspot.

There must be a way for vodafone to send the settings down to the phone to make this happen???

Well it sounds like your settings must be correct. I suspect that customer services, although telling you it was fine, got it wrong.

The issue here is the APN. Personal hotspot is tethering, and tethering uses the ACCINT APN. You need to have this enabled by Voda firstly, but all iPhone plans have it already. But your hotspot APN needs to be ACCINT. Remember older tariffs charge out of bundle unless on the newer type tariffs.

How do I get this apn?
Maybe one of the vodafone team on here could 100% confirm it is indeed enabled on my plan?

Then it's just a matter of getting the apn on the phone isn't it?

Hey guys,

Thanks for letting us know about this. Could you give the below suggestion a go please?

1) Switch Cellular Data ON and Data Roaming ON and 3G to ON also 

2) GO to Cellular Data Network and ensure your Cellular Data settings are correct 
fill in all possible settings. 
3) Fill in your Internet Tethering with the above Cellular Data settings. 
4) Once finished Click on the Network back button/tab at the top to go to previous screen. 
5) Switch Cellular Data OFF 
6) And switch Cellular Data ON again.

Let me know how you get on.

I have the exact same problem on my iPhone 4.3.. CS have checked twice that my account has personal hotspot enabled, but my phone's settings>general>network page still shows the "Set up personal hotspot" button. I've tried settings>general>reset>reset network settings, but with no luck. CS said that PH is enabled and there's no advice they can give me to make it work. In other words: you're on your own. Can a Voda rep please help out here? CS providing friendly but useless customer service.

Hi Lee. I tried you suggestion but no joy. Specific problems with your points:
2) not sure how I'm supposed to know what the correct cellular data settings are. These seem to be automatically provided by vodafone.
3) the term "Internet tethering" is not displayed anywhere on the network or cellular data network pages.
My cellular data network page only shows settings for cellular data (apn=wap.vodafone.co.uk) and MMS (same apn). Can you offer improved suggestion that will address these specific issues? Thanks.

Thanks for coming back to me.

Could you try the following please:

Reset the network-settings? 

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network>Reset Settings 

Additionally please go to:

Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings 

Please activate the Airplane Mode for about 10 seconds after the settings have reset. Check the APN and then turn Airplane Mode off again.

 
Now the personal hotspot should be available again. If not it's blocked in your provider settings and we'll need to take a look at your account.
