Porting only half done on new 4GS

Ported over from 02. After a long wait the number finally seemed to go over around 8pm at night on Mon 17th Oct, however on iTunes I'm still my old number (the one Voda gave me last week) and with my friends it seems that most (but not all) get my correctly ported number but other still get the box set Voda identity! The phone itself thinks it has changed... all very confusing. Voda helpline says wait until the weekend - anyone else having this problem?

Thanks

Hi flowerdad

To get some further information about the port process and where it's up to we'd need to gain access to your Vodafone account.

I've dropped an e-mail into your registered eForum e-mail address with a request for further information. If you could reply with a few further details one of the team will be in touch.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Porting only half done on new 4GS

Having just done this myself, you need to perform the following steps after having a number ported with a new iPhone:

Go to settings>phone>my number .... Then change it to your permanent number

Then iMessage and FaceTime will reactive with this number, iTunes will show the correct number, and your friends (using iMessage) will all see your correct number.

Hope it helps!

Re: Porting only half done on new 4GS

Ps only your friends with iMessage will see the wrong number before you do the steps above. The giveaway is that in messages, the text will be blue if it's going to someone with iMessage, and green if it's sent as an SMS.

Have a good weekend with your old number!

Re: Porting only half done on new 4GS

I now have a similar problem having purchased new iphone4 last week and had a port of my number arranged for Tuesday of this week, which happened, but this has only enabled me to make outgoing calls but refuses the sending of any messages, and there are no incoming calls or texts. Anyone calling my number is told this does not exist.

I have spoken to 5 different agents at Vodafone today and spent I would think 2-3 hours trying to sort out, all with different ideas on how to fix the problem, none of which have worked and I am now being promised a re port in the next day or so. I have no confidence at this stage it will happen. It is not the phomne and vodafone accept it is a network issue

All of which leaves me in a very difficult position trying to run a business where clients cannot contact me.

Please Please Mr Moderator can you hasten the matter and make sure I am not being palmed off with another fix which will not work. I cannot be the only one with this type of problem.

Hey mickysnells,

Sorry to see that you have had issues with porting your number over to us.

Can I ask if you are still having any issues?

If you are, please reply to the email that I have sent you and I will be able to take a look at this for you.

Re: Porting only half done on new 4GS

I have the exact same issue. Port supposed to go through Tuesday 15th. I've called at everyday and been told it will be resolved by the end of the business day. I've also been told to change settings and re-sync with itunes but clearly its an issue at Vodafone's end. I have no incoming service but can call out.

I've now been 4 days without service. Not a happy new customer !

Re: Porting only half done on new 4GS

After having all the settings reset etc etc, it was staringly obvious that it was a porting problem. I am pleased to say I went back on air properly late yesterday after they promised on Wednesday to 're port' my number as only half the process had happened.

So I was down for a frustrating 2.5 days - not good really and not doing Voda's reputation any good. No apology or follow up call or complimentary £10 credit etc which would go a long way to making me feel wanted, but there you go, I am locked in for a year so do they care - I doubt!

Today I am as free as a bird and discovering the ease of dictating texts in seconds instead of fiddling around with a keyboard

- best of luck!
