Pricing: am I missing something?

Everyone keeps going on about how other providers are cheaper but I don't think they are in my case.  I have ordered a 32gig black 4S for the folllowing:

Handset            £139

Less Incentive  (£59)

18M x £46         £828

Less £20 cashback (£20)

Total Cost           £888

This is for 1200min unlimited text and 750mb of data.  I am not that fussed about minutes as long as they are over 150pm and text of about 50 Data must be 500mb or above.

For my requirements I think Vodafone is cheapest.  Anyone think I have calculated wrong?

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

I think T-Mobile are by far the cheapest, they do the best deals including unlimited data, it's a shame they have such useless network coverage.

I'm getting ripped off as an early upgrader, paying for an 18 month contract for 24 months, especially when the new contract costs £6 more and I get less inclusives with it AND I have to pay them an extra £55 upfront with the price of the phone. But, I have to stay with Vodafone because no other networks get any signal anywhere near my work, where I spend 50% of my woken week!

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

KyleR84,

I am in the same position as you. Early upgrade fees etc etc. I look on it as just the premium I will be paying for a new phone. However, as I understand it, I was not aware that I will be paying 18month prices for 24 months. I assumed that I am now on a 18month contract tariff, therefore, it will only be on it for 18months.

Hope that kinda makes sense? Perhaps you know different, but I assumed when upgrading early onto an 18month tariff, it is only for 18months.

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

Hey Ben, my contract ends 7th April, so my new 18 month contract will actually start on that date, despite me already paying for it from last Friday when I early upgraded to the 4S. I did confirm this with a CS rep who I was talking to at the time when I discovered this rip off. Nothing we can do though, it's our own stupid fault and impatience lol

So, basically your new 18 month contract will infact end in Oct 2013, I think I had that in writing in an email too, but probably deleted it because I already knew.

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

In which case, I am just going to cancel the upgrade. The whole process is a shambles, and you can probably see in the other thread, some has worked out that it is cheeper to to buy out of a contract, and then re-sign. Whatever, I will be paying a crazy amount for 24months to get this new phone, and its not worth it.

I'm out!

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

It'd cost me over £200 to buy out of contract, cost £175 this way, so I'm sticking. But the fact I'm buying out contract and resigning with Vodafone makes it a rip off, we should get a discount like 02 where they basically pay half the price of their remaining contract so long as they resign.

That's the price of having to have the latest new toy immediately. :smileyhappy:

Also worth noting that O2 are not allowing advance orders for upgrades. Customers have to go to  the stores on Friday morning and take their chance of there being any phones available. Can you imagine the deluge of  'it's destroying my life' posts here if Vodafone had done that?

Re: Pricing: am I missing something?

If I was going to save over £100 i'd happily queue at the store at 8am to upgrade, but since I can only use Vodafone as no other network has reception...

Also, it's not about wanting the next new toy ASAP, my HTC HD2 is completely useless and has been for over a year now. The phone works fine except for not sending/receiving MMS which vodafone blame the phone on (and they're probably right) there are just no decent apps or anything for it, so I need a new phone to save what little sanity I have left lol
