iPhone 4 and 4S

So I have an iPhone 4S and would like to set up tethering on the phone, for example, use the internet on my iPad by tethering through my phone.

I understand I need the Personal Hotspot. So when I select in Setting > Network, it just takes me to this link, which is no good: www.vodafone.co.uk/help/iphone

what do i need to do so i can make it work?

I have exactly the same problem, trying to set up my iPhone 4S to my iPad- the Vodafone help page says that I need to go into General -> Networks -> Internet Tethering but there is no option for that, just "Set up Personal Hotspot" which goes to a message suggesting a help page when clicked. It won't let me update any settings. Please help.

So you don’t get any option to turn personal hotspot on?

If so it might be that you need to have something amended on your account. To do this I’ll send you a private message explaining exactly how you can get in touch with us.

I have the exact same problem. It used to work fine, albeit, I haven't used it for several months.

I've tried re-setting the settings and it's still not working. Any advice??

I've just spoken to the tech team. I'm being told by them that I cannot have tethering switched on as I am now on a Sim only deal having switched when my contract ended in October.

I was told that if I want tethering added I need to switch to an iphone contract. Is this correct? I don't see why I need to be on an iphone contract when I have a data allowance anyway??

If so I think it's an absolute joke considering I have been with vodafone for years and have two contracts with them!

That is rubbish. You just need to get through to the right person. I was told this. Redialled customer services and the next person managed to get it fixed.

I've spoke to two people now who both didn't seem to know what they were talking about.

I should never of been sold the contract if it's not compatible with an iPhone!

I'm on a Sim only deal (I pay for both myself and my partner's SIM only dual deal on the same account) which has been in existence for over a year.  But I've been a loyal Vodafone customer long before that.  I also DO NOT want to have to switch to an iphone contract. I don't see why I need to be on an iphone contract when I have a data allowance anyway?

By the way, I cannot understand why I have 500MB limit of data on my phone plan when initally it was agreed to be unlimited, along with unlimited text.  I don't remember being notified of this change.   I see I am due an upgrade on my account and would like this lifting up to 1Gb at no extra charge (not that I use it that much anyway).

I have been a loyal customer for ages.... so please can someone at Vodafone help me.    I think it might be time for me to move to O2 if Vodafone cannot show me any loyalty and respect back.   

I'll let the rest of you know (public readership) know how I get on with Vodafone.

Hi Rammy,

If you're using an iPhone, I'm afraid you'll need to take an iPhone plan. These have specific APN's and are designed to get the most out of the handset and are set up in accordance to the agreements we have with the manufacturer. We do have plans available with 1GB of data, however much like any other allowances such as minutes, these may cost more as you're getting more inclusive usage.

You can also find details as to the 2010 changes which made the 500MB fair usage policy of our old 'Unlimited Data' allowances a solid cap here. This would have been communicated to you via post and/or text up to 30 days before the changes as per the terms and conditions of your contract agreement.

The hotspot used to work fine. I have had in store tech from both Vodafone and Apple looking at this. I went through a reinstall of iphone settings as well as just reinstall network settings.
I have data allowance and a proper iphone contract, so what's up? What do i need to do so i can make it work? I gather Vodafone needs to do something to my account to enable this to happen?
