iPhone 4 and 4S

I got a SIM-free iPhone 4S on release day and put my micro-SIM in it (12 month SIM-only for iPhone, now out of contract)

When I tried to activate PH I got a message telling me to go online and after going round in circles I phoned up...cutting a long story short, I eventually got a phone call from someone in the "web team" (? the folks behind the twitter account I guess) who said that tethering was enabled and any usage would come from my standard 1GB data allowance.

The problem is, when I try to activate personal hotspot (Settings -> General -> Network), there's a spinner beside "Personal Hotspot" then it changes to "Set Up Personal Hotspot". Tapping it shows the same "To enable...on this account, visit http://www.vodafone.co.uk..." that it always did.

Any ideas? I've already tried turning it off and on again

sounds like you don't have the ACCINT APN active. This is needed to allow tethering and personal hotspot. One for the mods to check and resolve I'm afraid.

Hi hoping you can help,

I have been with voda for over a year and had my data allowance upgraded and tethering enabled as part of a free upgrade to stay with voda for another year. My data allowance has indeed increased and I can see thie new allowance in my home area however I am still unable to set up a personal hotspot as it just brings up the weblink to setup a personal hotspot at vodafone.co.uk/help/iphone each time.

Any ideas ?

Now resolved after speaking with the customer retentions team as the deal the initially offered me was not possible on the plan they proposed. 

Very happy now though as i was offered another plan for the same money that allows the internet  tethering. This means i am with vodafone for another year on a competitive plan compared to other mobile providers and I will hopefully continue to get good service for my loyalty.

I have just the same problem. I have been bounced around Vodafone for the past 5 days trying to resolve it. Firstly, someone added 1.5Gb data allowance to my price plan ...... but no tethering. THEN, i was told I needed to be on a specifically iPhone price plan so they switched me and managed to double my monthly spend. BUT, tethering worked.

Overnight, I decided that I really didn't want to pay for a huge amount of data when I would only really use tethering once or twice a year and on a very limited basis.

I called Vod this morning and hit the 'if you are thinking of leaving Vodafone' option. I was offered a far more acceptable price plan which I was assured was iPhone specific and Sim Free for a year. I could increas the data elemant for the period I needed it. Fine ...... but no, it's NOT fine. I have no tethering !!!

Tech support in Egypt explained that I had to speak to 'Billing' about this. I will be calling them in the morning.

There is no consistency withing Vodafone over the tethering issue. I have spent MANY hours of my valuable time (and yes, time really is money!). Still I have got nowhere.

If I don't have this sorted by Monday I will be switching to another provider ...... I have been with Vodafone for as long as mobile phones have existed but i have finally had enough. Is there anyone on here who might be able to offer me any hope at all ?
