iPhone 4s unlocking

hello, i have had my iphone since the launch day and i am now going to australia for educational purposes for 2-3 months

i wanted to take my iphone with me as i can facetime my family for free (We all have iPhones in my household on vodafone)

is there any way i can get it unlocked as i want to keep the phone, but use a local sim there, because i dont see the point in buying another iPhone when i can just get this one unlocked to use abroard

my contract is nowhere near up, and i know it needs to be up, but i just want to know if you can under these circumstances?

thanks

Re: iPhone 4s unlocking

I bought my iPhone from someone who bought it on contract in the UK and decided to use old phone on this contract and sell the new iPhone. I would like to unlock this iPhone to use it in different country, where I am now. What I should do?

Re: iPhone 4s unlocking

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your posts here, please find a reply to your posts below;

@ thiagouk, The iPhone has now been unlocked – Please replace the SIM (use a SIM which has never been used with this iPhone) and connect to iTunes or perform a software restore via iTunes.

@ Freddoo, we can still unlock your iPhone if you are still in commitment with us, all you need to do is fill in the online NUC request form where it will then be requested for you.

@ itsjulia, as this was purchased from a 3rd party you will need to ask the original owner to contact us to request the unlock for you or alternatively they can also fill in the online form on your behalf.

James

If you have any comments regarding how I have handled your query today, please complete our short feedback survey.

Re: iPhone 4s unlocking

Thank you for your answer. There's any other way to unlock phone without contacting with original owner?

Re: iPhone 4s unlocking

Hi itsjulia,

Unfortunately there isn’t any other way as the policy is in place to prevent against any possible fraud or theft of a phone and getting it unlocked.

Due to this the request must be made by the original owner where we will have proof of purchase on their account.

I’m sure you can appreciate the level of security used to protect our customers.

Re: Unlock iPhone 4S

Hi

After receiving the info from voda website when I was looking at upgrades, I was told that the iphone4s could be unlocked.

Also that it could be done in a voda shop.

Great I am happy with "that" answer.

As my upgrade is not due for 2 more weeks I could not go ahead at this time.
2 Days later I go into the store at Hartlepool, only to be told Voda won`t unlock an iphone 4s until 12 month after entering into the contract.

Now I am one very unhappy customer!!!!!!!
Imediately going home logging onto the site and asking to cancel my contract as soon as possible!!! 7.7.12 is the earliest date.

Anyway I have stumbled onto this forum when googling so hopefully I get a straight answer and am not told a load of ****. (sorry you can guess I am mad after having 2 phones on contracts with voda for 3 years!!!!)

Anyway the "problem" I have is that I travel to Thailand for a month every year. I need to use local sims (Dtac or 1-2-call)

If I bought a voda contract (or cpw voda contract) what would be my options?

"IF" the phone can be unlocked by voda in the uk, what would happen when I put the Thai sim into the phone then return to the uk?

Would the phone then lock to the Thai sim?

If not when I put the voda sim back into the phone would it lock to voda again????

I really want an iphone but am not starting to think !is it worth all the hassle"

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

ps (when I emailed the reason why I wanted to leave ie lied to about the unlocking, I was just given the date the phone would be turned off!!!)

Regards

Paul

Re: Unlock iPhone 4S

Hi, I have also found conflicting information and I'm now a little frustrated about the whole matter. After doing a fair amount of research it appeared to be that it is simply a case of taking my new phone to a Vodafone store where they will unlock for you providing you are the account holder. When ordering the new phone I also confirmed with the gentleman who was putting the order through that the phone could be unlocked to other networks and he confirmed this was the case. Once I received the phone, I called customer services to arrange unlocking the phone and was told this could only be done after 90 days of registering with ITunes which wasn't what we were told before ordering the upgrade. I have tried to use the NUC request form and get this response: We are unable to request Number Unlocking Code for Mobile Number --------------- Your account details are not updated, kindly contact customer care on 191 for further assistance. Any more information and assistance on this would be much appreciated!

Re: Unlock iPhone 4S

Hi there paulandnuek,

Thanks for your post.

I'm sorry but you've been misadvised. We can unlock the device at any point of the contract and once it's unlocked it's unlocked. This means that it won't lock to the Thai network. It'll be unlocked forever.

You will need to fill out the unlocking request form though.

Hey ClaireCE,

Thanks for your post.

The exact same thing happened to me when I requested my unlock code for an iPhone I got on an upgrade. I can help with this though.

We need to update the email address and the IMEI on your account. You can do this either in store, over the phone or via email.

If you'd prefer the eForum Team to update your account then you'll be pleased to hear I've sent you a PM which can be accessed here. If you could follow the instructions in the PM and send us your details one of the team will be with you as soon as they can.

Cheers,

Lee

Re: Unlock iPhone 4S

I've got an iPhone 4s on 12M contract bought over the phone as an upgrade directly from Vodafone UK.

I'm being told by nucresolutions that I cannot have a free unlock because on my last contract (also bought directly from Vodafone UK) I had my iPhone 4 From Vodafone unlocked.

Surely this should not be chargeable as it is different to the information on here.

Can you please assist (Request #9020422)?

Regards,

Lee.

Re: Unlock iPhone 4S

Please can someone help me. I bought an iphone from Vodafone for my father who now wants to unlock it. After requesting an unlock in store two months ago, he still hasn't heard a word. I also requested online via the NUC resolutions team an unlock and have since had a generic email (as I have seen have many others) saying : We are unable to verify account holder name, email address and IMEI number, as it is not matching with our database. To update these details, kindly contact the Helpline by calling 191 from your mobile phone or 08700 700191 (Vodafone contract) or 08700 776655 (Vodafone Pay as you Talk) from a landline.

Please please please can you help me. My father is getting increasingly frustrated and it's really upsetting me as I can't get a resolution. The request email case = 9336556

Please help me to resolve this, I'd really appreciate it.
