Using Siri with contacts with similar names

[ Edited ]

Loving my 4S so far. The only issue I'm having at the minute though, is when Siri finds more than one contact with a similar name. For example, my girlfiend is called "Ruth" and I also have her Dad saved as "David Ruth". When I ask Siri to send Ruth a text, he asks me which Ruth and gives me the 2 options. When I say Ruth again, or click on Ruth (it shows the 2 options on screen), it just asks the same question again ("which Ruth?"). How do I select which one to use and is there a way I can make it 1 by default? Can't seem to find specific settings for Siri yet :smileyfrustrated:

@BigDogg123 - your gf is Ruth Ruth then???? Anyway, to solve your problem, teach Siri she is your gf then you can say "text girlfriend". To teach it, say "text girlfriend" and it will say it doesn't know who your gf is so tell it "Ruth" and select her from the two options it gives. I had the same problem with my wife's name. HTH

Your wife's name's HTH?? How strange :smileyvery-happy:

What if BigDogg123 has more than one girlfriend? Saying "Text Girlfriend" could lead him into all sorts of trouble!

I assume his name isn't actually David Ruth so why don't you just put his proper name in?

I even put my close relatives in as their FULL names.

The only problem I have is that my wife's name is exactly the same as my aunty's name. I hope my aunt hurries up and gets married! lol

Just tell Siri to call your wife. It'll ask who your wife is, tell her and then it'll make that relationship.

Re: Using Siri with contacts with similar names

Siri is actually even smarter than that. Yes, I have her set up as wife, but also Siri has got even smarter.

So I have two Laura Deeming's and at first Siri needed to ask which Laura Deeming I meant. Now I can just say "Text Laura" and it knows I mean my wife. Probably because I've never texted my Aunt through Siri.

I'm impressed.

There is another way of doing this for sisters, brothers, spouse, mum, daughter etc.

  1. Go to settings/General/Siri make sure you have added yourself to the My Info section.
  2. Go to your Contact details In Contacts and select Edit, then Add Field,  select Related People then just add related people to your new field.

Now you can just ask Siri to text/call mum, sister, daughter etc.
