Using my 2gb BT Openzone allowance and Data Traveller

I have been trying to get this working since the start of the year. The advice given on the Vodafone web pages and by Technical support seems to be somewhat lacking. The Vodafone app is something I have had on my iPhone for a while now. I have attempted to connect to the SSID that shows Auto-BTWiFi when in Leicester Square, London. I got a Username and Password box to enable me to verify my right to connect. However, when I enter my Vodafone username and password, it says "Incorrect username or password for "Auto-BTWifi". My call was put through to a first line support person in Vodafone who suggested that even though I have an account on MyVodafone, I needed to register for the WiFi by going to www.vodafone.co.uk/wifi. He could not find where it said this or what had to be done and so spoke to 2nd line Vodafone support. He understood that I was doing everything right but needed to speak to another line of support. I asked when I would be getting a phone call back and was assured that it would be before 8pm today. Needless to say that has not happend and so I am still unable to use my BT OpenZone allowance. Why is it so difficult for them to give the right information and to be able to verify the account name used is the correct one. I am wondering why I agreed to get my iPhone from Vodafone and stay on for a further 2 years. It always takes a long while to get anyone in Technical support to understand the basics. It's no wonder they have no idea of how to provide a solution. Also, I am having issues with Vodafone Data Traveller saying I have the European £10 package included in my account and yet when abroad it says I have the £2 package confirmed by text. Customer service in Egypt said they would look into it and then text me to say that you cannot activate the Data Traveller package within the UK and can only do it when aboard. I would be grateful if someone in the UK could provide some advice and assistance to get these issues resolved. Needless to say I will be looking to move back to T-Mobile as soon as possible.

Re: Using my 2gb BT Openzone allowance and Data Traveller

HI TonyBarretto,

Thanks for your post here.

When it comes to the BT Openzone usage, as long as you have the WIFI option enabled on your account which is shown as WF on the price plan or WIFI under your subscriptions within the My Vodafone App you shouldn’t have any problems in accessing the service.

When looking at using this service you will also need to check that you are using the correct BT Openzone Hotspot as the service does not cover roaming partners, BT Fon or Business hubs.

You can check which hotspot you are connecting to by putting the postcode in the BT Openzone directory.

Can I ask if you still get the same error if you manually connect via the WIFI settings on the phone, load a web page, select VodafoneUKfrom the drop down box and enter you My Account login details?

In regards to the Data Traveller pack, this can be activated in theUKand if you already have it on your account then you shouldn’t have any issues and the message that you received could have been sent in error.

However, if you would like us to check this and the account for you, simply follow the instructions that I have sent to you via PM and one of the team can check this for you.

You can find your PM inbox here.

Re: Using my 2gb BT Openzone allowance and Data Traveller

Hi James As I stated, I have only every tried to connect using the method in the My Vodafone iPhone app. Therefore, it has only been done in places where BT Openzone is shown on a map. The last place was the north side of Leicester Square in central london, right in front of the Empire cinema. I have connected to the SSID Auto-BTWiFi which I am Is documented in the WiFi section of the iPhone app. This is when I am asked to enter ny usernaame and password (Vodafone stated this is the same as that used to log into My Vodafone) and then it tells me that this information is incorrect. I have never seen a pull down list when connecting to the other BT Openzone SSID. It has directed my browser to the BT Openzone log on screen, but again the username and password do not work. I have spoken to BT Openzone and they have told me that they do not provide the username and passwords for Vodafone, only done by Vodafone. I have sent in a request for you to check my account is correctly set-up for my 2GB BT Openzone WiFi package. I would be grateful if you can ensure the correct username and password and where the nearest Vodafone BT Openzone is to myself, so that we can try the connection from a known point rather than some random place on the BT Openzone network. Thanks and regards

Re: Using my 2gb BT Openzone allowance and Data Traveller

I have tried to log into BT Openzone manually after my account subscription was changed. However, it still does not accept that I have a Vodafone plan using either my phone number or Vodafone account name. So somehow, my vodafone BT Openzone has not been validated by BT. Interestingly, the iphone Vodafone app will no longer give me account usage information and suggests this will become available after my next bill. Should we know look at creating a new myVodafone account ? I wonder if I could get a callback on Monday to discuss where we go next ? Regards Tony.
