According to the Customer Services rep I just got off the phone to "if you ordered (and received a order confirmation email) before 6pm yesterday, your shiny new iPhone 4S will arrive tomorrow between 8am and 6pm (Home deliveries). If you ordered it to store it will be available after 1pm at your selected VF store". 
Unfortunately, if you didn't order before 6pm yesterday delivery tomorrow is unlikely, owing to Vodafone not having the use of a teleporter to deliver the handsets!
It's unfortunate but true that when demand overwhelms capacity communication is the first thing to suffer. I received my iPhone 3GS on the Vodafone launch day and then just like now I never received a 'your handset has been dispatched' email. I know this is very frustrating especially if you need to arrange for someone to be at the delivery address. Perhaps it would be good if a Moderator could update the sticky at the top of this thread to reiterate the statement I received from CS regarding the Wednesday 6pm cut off point.
I order my iphone 4s on Monday night. As my first order I placed on the sunday did not go through. I have never got any conformation from vodafone. A lady called from cs saying my order has gone through i would get my phone on the 18th. I called cs to comfirm today and was told my phone is waiting to be despatch to dropped off tomorrow

To clarify what I can, we do need to place orders before 6PM to guarantee a delivery the next day because otherwise it's too late for the couriers to collect them that evening.
With a busy period for orders such as this, we may recommend placing the order earlier to increase the likelihood of delivery on the relevant date, just because of the number of orders to be processed in the warehouse and collected by the courier.
Not ordering by that point does not mean you definitely will not get the handset, in the same way that ordering before is not a cast iron guarantee - it all depends on stock meeting demand.

Pre-orders are fulfilled first come-first served, so those placed earlier have the best chance of going through for tomorrow. Ordering last Friday will certainly have you in a box seat.
The notifications of orders have been backlogged, as mentioned in the iPhone pre-order FAQ, and the order that requests are being fulfilled does not affect the order that we're dispatching the handset, as this will be done in batches and may be sorted by model, general location, courier's delivery centre used, and so on.
