Working in India

I need some help, I have the iphone 4 which is currently playing up so thinking of getting it upgraded to the iPhone 4S but I travel a lot, and Vodafone previously unlocked my iphone 4 so I could travel.  If I upgrade to the iphone 4S will I be able to get it unlocked also?

I'll be back in India from the begning of November??

If so I'll order today!!

Re: Working in India

Hi simeonherbert,

Don't worry, the iPhone 4S can be unlocked just like your iPhone 4 was.

Keep in mind, though, that we can only deliver to UK addresses, so you would need to get someone to receive it for you and forward it on.

Is there any particular feature you're looking forward to? The added battery life will no doubt come in handy for you if you're on the move a lot!

Dave

Re: Working in India

The new iPhone is classed as a 'World Phone' so should work as you need straight out of the box.
From Apple -
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz)3

Can you clarify what you mean by unlocked? Do you mean to accept other carriers?

[ Edited ]

I hope you are saying Dave, that I can request an unlock code once I have the phone - how do I do that?

I don't want to jail break it - based on your comment I will be buying it now, but please email me how to unlock it.

(email address removed for security)

Thanks

Re: Working in India

I was under the impression the only way to unlock a handset via a carrier was only once you had completed your contract with them. The other option is to buy direct from Apple and then it would be unlocked.

Another thing, I wouldn't post your email address as it has the potential to fall into the wrong hands and you could end up with a lot of SPAM :-)

Vodafone will unlock the phone for you whilst you are still in contract. However if you decide to use it on another carrier you do still have to honour your contract with VF until the end of its term.

After you request the unlock VF ask Apple to unlock it in their database. You will receive an email with a reference number, this is not an unlock code as there is no unlock code for an iPhone.

Once Apple have completed the unlock request and you connect your phone to iTunes you will see a message telling you the phone is now unlocked and to insert a different carrier's sim. So get hold of any UK PAYG sim other than VF for the purpose. That completes the unlocking process.

One thing to make sure is that you unlock the phone before youe leave for India. The iTunes unlock process only completes when you connect to iTunes in the region your iTunes account is registered in.

Is there a charge from Vodafone to unlock the handset?

Re: Working in India

I believe there if you have a  PAYG  handset, not otherwise though.

Hi simeonherbert,

I've removed your email address from your post for security reasons. Posting such details on a public forum may result in you receiving spam, something I'm sure you'd wish to avoid.

Thanks

Re: Working in India

You can request the handset to be network unlocked direct from our website:

How do I network unlock my handset?

Keep in mind that unlocking the handset doesn't end the contract, so you'd still need to pay the monthly line rental.

Re: Working in India

Paying for my contract is not a problem - paying silly rates when in India for a month is the problem.

Many thnks to everyone with their help.
