iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

I just purchased an pay as you go iphone 4 from vodafone after seeing on this forum and being told by a customer service rep that they can be unlocked. I phoned up vodafone customer support to get it unlocked and have been told by a team leader that they can not be unlocked. Administrators as you have posted on this forum that pay you go can be unlocked can you tell me who I should call as I am fast losing my patience. Thanks

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

Indeed, this does need to be clarified. Before ordering mine, I was told by two seperate sales reps that they can be unlocked on the day of purchase for £19.99. I have the logs of the online chats as proof, for what they are worth.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

I filled this in today:

http://help.vodafone.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=1267155&PARTIT...

Staff in shop said they knew nothing about unlocking.

I also sent a message to customer services as instructed here:

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/69128-apple-iphone-4-unlocking/

I included both of the above links as a reference in my message.

Neither page mentions anything about this £19.99 charge, nor did any of the Voda staff I spoke to on the phone.

The second link actually states that any iPhone 4 acquired from Voda which is not under any contractual agreement will be unlocked free of charge.

PAYT iPhones are not under any contractual agreement so we should all be entitled to free unlocking.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

The website states that if you bought the phone from vodafone non subsidized then you can request the unlock code.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

The question has already been confirmed on the following threads.

http://forum.vodafon...locked-on-payg/

http://forum.vodafon...payg-questions/

Ok Ann it may have been answered but do members of vodafone staff know this as I have tried to get a unlock code and have been told that this service is unavailable.

I have to say this is the worst experience I have had with ANY telecomunications company

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

Hi zackariah,

Thanks for posting, I can see there's been some confusion here, so I'd like to clear everything up for you :).

I can confirm that the iPhone can be unlocked as it wasn't purchased as part of a contract. This means if you've purchased it on PAYG then it can definitely be unlocked for a fee of £19.99. Details can be found here: iPhone Network Unlock.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

Thank you George and I am gratful for the help but I have seen this link and whilst it appears that you know that I should be able to unlock the Iphone I spoke to 4 members (two team leaders) of your vodafone staff at your call centres who told that it could not be done .

As the Iphone is a popular product vodafone will be getting alot more requests for unlocking codes and it would be nice if call centre staff actually knew what they where talking about!

I will call them again and try and get my phone unlocked and let you know the results.

I have not been taking staff members names but from now until my phone is unlocked I will name everyone that tells me I cant unlock it.

Thanks again

Hi ,

I have purchased a Iphone 4 on PAYG 3 weeks ago, been on hold more than 4 hours in total over the three weeks, and asked for the phone to be unlocked ,and the phone is still locked.

Emailed NUC unclocking, and the unlock request has been cancelled.
called and no luck to get my handset unlocked.

is there a stressfree way of getting my phone unlocked.

surprsing how, everyone @ vodafone has a different story for unlocking.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

yes it is very odd. emailing and webform seem to be sorted out by diff ppl. have paid 19.99 as asked, and have gotten the reply as below:-

Currently, we don’t have the NUC for your phone in our database so I’ve requested this for you directly from the manufacturer.
Further, I've debited £19.99 from your account for requesting NUC for your phone. The current calling credit on your account is £0.01.

You should receive your NUC within 5 working days either via email, text message or post, though you need to know it can sometimes take up to 6 weeks
got that email on 1 Oct, still a/w atm.. has any1 got theirs unlocked yet?

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

Yeah i have to second this, o2 3G coverage is better, especially inside, i recently moved because didn't have o2 coverage in a new flat, but find vodafone frustrated i come to places where there is no reception at all, like Ikea, Tesco, let along the data.

Tried to fill the NUC form online, but there is no iPhone on the dropdown list of phones!

Has anybody tried anyother way to request?

Cheers.

iPhone 4 - PAYG unlocking?

Hello ncs,

Thanks for your post on the eForum. Help with your question can be found at the below link:

This link does mention contract phones, but the same procedure can also be used for PAYG phones.

If this doesn’t answer your query, let us know and we’ll get a member of the eForum team to investigate this further for you.

Thanks

Hi sdiakite2008

As this is a public forum I wouldn't recommend placing any of your personal information as everyone will be able to see them.

I have removed your phone number and IMEI number for security and one of the team will help further ASAP.

Did you buy the phone off Vodafone as part of a contract or on PAYG?

Did you buy the phone from a reseller  or privately?

If the phone is PAYG there is a charge for unlocking it, if as part of a contract there is no charge and you need to fill in the NUC form on the website.

Then:

As  there is no unlocking code for the iPhone. The number that you receive from Vodafone will be the reference number of your request.

Vodafone ask Apple to unlock the phone, Apple then change the phone’s details on their database to show it is unlocked. Once Apple have processed the unlock request the next time you connect the phone to iTunes you will get a message in iTunes that the phone is now unlocked. The message will also ask you to insert a sim from a different network to the one the phone was locked to which will complete the unlocking. Once this is done the phone will remain unlocked.
