iPhone 4 - how do i activate it?

Got mine at phones4u today at 11am. I upgraded from my existing vodafone contract and still have no service on the iphone 4 yet. My old phone still has a signal

When I log into my online account at vodafone.co.uk and click on "My devices" it shows nothing, should I add my iphone4 here?

Have you connected the phone to Itunes as it will need to download the carrier (Vodafone) settings and register the phone.

iPhone 4 - how do i activate it?

Hi

iTunes is needed to activate the phone to the carrier. This is my third iPhone (2, 3G and now 4) and it's always been the same method for me. Simply insert the sim card into the phone, turn it on, open iTunes, plug the phone into a USB on your PC and iTunes will do the rest.

I don't know if the amount of iPhone 4 activations on the Apple/carrier servers will cause a bit of an "activation queue". I plugged mine into iTines at about 1030 this morning and it activated right away.

Hi

Yes. Just open up iTunes on your laptop and plug the phone into it.

As for the sycnhing; that depends on whether you have auto-synching selected in iTunes. If it does start to synchronise I believe you can cancel it.

Myrm is spot on here :)

You will need to have placed your MicroSIM into the iPhone, and connected it to iTunes in order to activate it fully for the network.

There is more information about moving your number to your MicroSIM available in our Help Centre :)

Should I fill out that form on the vodafone website with my old and new sim numbers? Even though they probably sorted it out instore already?

Also what will happen to my old contract? It ends on July 22nd 2010, but I upgraded today onto a new contract. cheers

iPhone 4 - how do i activate it?

Hi all

neil1982 you can only have one active SIM on one number at any one time. So if your old SIM is active, your new micro SIM will be inactive. You will not be able to activate with iTunes until your micro SIM is active. If you give customer services a call on 191, they can advice which SIM is active, and process a manual change if required.

Hero87 completing the forms online will make no difference, that is purely for your reference purposes. Same applies to you. You can only have one active SIM, so if your old one is still live, your micro SIM will be disconnected. If you upgraded today and your old contract ended on 22nd July, your upgrade terms of either 18 or 24 months will be added as from 22nd July. So you will have the equivalent of a 19 or 25 month contract.

If either of you are still having any issues, let me know and I'll happily assist further.

Hi Niel1982, I would leave your old SIM in your old phone and leave it turned on so you can see when the number is deactivated as you will loose network from your old phone and depending on the model receive some kind of error (SIM not registered) message.

Thanks

iPhone 4 - how do i activate it?

Hi

I'm after your help please!

I used to have an iPhone 3G with O2 who I never had any problems with.

With the change of O2's iPhone tariffs, Vodafone offered the best value for me so on Thursday morning I ordered an iPhone 4 and entered my PAC code which I'd got from O2, before the 24th.

I chose to have my iPhone delivered to the Vodafone store in Reading.

Tonight I went to collect my new iPhone and I was given just a micro-SIM and the iPhone. They didn't do anything with the micro SIM, just handed them over.

On returning home, I connected my new iPhone to my computer and went through the iTunes activation process. iTunes then restored my new phone from my last iPhone 3G backup.

However, my iPhone 4 is waiting for activation. I read that this could take an hour so I waited that long and it still didn't activate.

So, next, I called Vodafone "customer service" and spoke to a lady tried to get me to activate it online however the form was asking me for my SIM numbers, (She said I should enter my O2 SIM serial number and the Vodafone SIM serial number), however I didn't have a mobile number (a new temporary Vodafone number), or any other details such as a PIN number.

As I didn't have a Vodafone mobile phone number she said I would need to call back tomorrow (Saturday) so that they could find my Vodafone number.

I don't think she was right, and it would be great if someone could answer these questions for me please?

- I have read somewhere on these forums that Vodafone don't issue temporary numbers, so:
- Do I need to wait for my number to be ported from O2, (48 working hours) before my iPhone will activate
- Because of the above I don't need to ring back tomorrow because they won't find a vodafone number for me
- My new iPhone will self-activate on either Monday or Tuesday next week

If anyone can answer me these questions I'd be very grateful!

Thanks in advance from a new, extremely frustrated, Vodafone customer.

Yes, you need to wait for the porting to take effect (usually within 48 working hours).
