Called VF several times (average 30 minutes wait each time).... after much "please hold, I need to check something" etc, finally they say my phone is registered but their network is so busy that it will be up to 24 hours before the SIM is recognised. Somehow I'm not sure if I believe them, they didn't sound very sure of themselves ....

Have you tried turning the phone off and back on.
This refreshes the network connection

Same boat STILL, my phone was recieved at noon and its now 9pm and still my sim does not work. I have no clue of my number so cannot setup my online account.
After waiting 40mins to CS earlier and requesting a call back i never recieved. I messaged Vodafone on twitter again never replied to.
As a business customer this really is not the way to give me the confidence to move the rest of our phones across to the network.

Keep switching your iPhone off and then back on (do a full system shutdown i.e. press and hold the top button until the 'slide to power off' message shows up) then switch back on.
This needs to be done to re-initialise the SIM card so it will authenticate on the Vodafone network.

The guy in the VF store activated my microsim, I did 2 soft resets and turned my phone on and off a few times but still no service after a few hours, I then tok my sim out and put it back in then low and behold it worked and Igot service, try this peeps and see if it works for you obviously ensure that your microsim is activated first with VF.

Your phone number is printed on the barcode sticker on the pack that your new micro sim came in.

I'm at 13+hours with 'no service' (spoke to CS yesterday who said they would sort it) - as a new customer I'm starting to worry about my move from O2...
anyone else in the same boat?

Setup with vodafone and a day later still no service, just rang them again on another number after my post above and he said to wait a further 24hrs.
I said about people getting them and them working straight away and he just said that there is a lot of new sim activations to go through.
Surely it should be activated when they send it out so it works when we receive them.
Never had this problem with O2

had call back - spoke to a nice chap!
CS error - sounded like the SIM number was keyed in wrong (I'm prepared to accept it could be my fault ... if I'm being generous)
should be ready in 20 minutes....
I guess with the number of calls these things will happen!

Been to the Vodafone store and they say that their is a problem with new customers sims, said to wait until monday but it could come on between now and then.
Doubt it, its obvious someone forgot to link the sims, numbers and phones and as they work mon-fri we have to wait till they are back at work.
What a right mess up, what is the cooling off period to cancel my contract and return the phone.
