i need help i was thinking of getting a iphone 4 and putting my iphone 3gs contract in there but i heard iphone 4 got micro sims so how would i be able to use my iphone 3gs contract sim in the iphone 4

All you have to do is go into a VF store and ask for a  micro sim (there may well be a charge) and they will swap your number on to the new sim

There are also micro SIM cutting tools on the market now (here) although I'd tend to agree with jeffkinn - having Vodafone transfer your number over to a micro SIM is the easier option
