Hi
I am looking for help in setting up my email on my iphone. I have used the setting I have been given by TalkTalk but still it does not work. I have had my broadband for some time now, firstly it was with Toucansurf who were aquired by Pipex and now by TalkTalk.
These are the setting I was given when I started with Toucansurf and they still work on my PC at home and I can receive email on my iphone but cannot send
Incomming: pop3.toucansurf.com
out going:smtp.toucansurf.com
I have also been given the following to tryon my iphone:
Incomming: pop.dsl.Pipex.com
outgoing : smtp.dsl.Pipex.com
Will recieve but not send.
Having searched the web there are a number of post complaining of the same problem.
What is the solution so I can still use my existing email address?

(I don't know that Toucansurf can use Tiscali services, but, given the chain of acquisition, I'd be hopeful!)

On your outgoing SMTP server settings have you set authentication to password?
ISPs normally don't let you send email through their SMTP server unless you are on their network. This may be why it works at home and not on the phone.

Hi angusnichols and welcome to the eForum
Thanks for your post here. The problem with this is jeffkin has stated in that most ISP’s will not allow you to use their outgoing mail server without using their network.
The solution to this is to use an open outgoing mail server such as GMail or Yahoo! To do this, go to www.google.com for instance and sign up for a GMail account. Then use the outgoing mail server smtp.gmail.com and for authentication user your GMail account username (Email address) and password.
This will then allow you to send emails over the Vodafone network and also your home network.
Please let me know how you get on and if you have any more questions just give us a shout. ![]()
Thanks
Wayne

Hi
Thanks for the reply but if I use Gmail or other will it not appear as if it has been sent form my gmail account rather than my normal email address.
Has anyone used an external SMTP site such as:
AUTHSMTP or SMTP2go for which you pay but you still send from your own email address.
Thanks

Hi angusnichols
You can set this up so that it shows that it comes from your normal account.
I’ve just taken some time to whack a guide together on how to do this and posted it in our FAQ section here.
Take a look and let me know how you get on with it ![]()
Thanks
Wayne

Angus — no. I decided some time back that the simplest solution was to have a dedicated (albeit virtual) SMTP server of my own.
Buying a domain, and paying for third party hosting, is working out about £25/year, and, to my mind, that's money very well spent.
