iMessage activation

Hi I recently went from Vodafone contract to PAYG SIM card in my iphone 5S but my new number won't activate in my imessage...my Apple ID activates fine but when I message people it's coming up my Apple ID address not my number, I've tried everything and I can get my new number to appear in imessage it just keeps failing to activate? HELP!
