Dear Team and Members

I received a Video message today.

The details of the message are :

+79262002776

http//03.w478.net/app/v3/FvPHhc/nykkjejdibdjdbfMutoYehiikhMAYv/1fbo6e/kfCTzIc3T if/

Its really puzzling. Cant think that it could be a message from anyone I know.

It has come through as a service message, but my service messages are off.

I am too scared to open it.

Any advise really appreciated.

Ann

I asked the eForum for advise with this message and you totally ignored my thread.

It is a scam because I just downloaded this message. It an unsolicited thing without the shortcode.

Why did you not come back to me?

Now I am subscribed to some pornographic service I dont want. Think I see enough of that with my Husband !

Now I have all the trouble of replying back to this unwanted unsolicited message.

An apology from the eForum might be in order for ignoring my question.

For further information the name of the site is 'TOTAL EMBARRASSING'

I dont ask a question here very often and the eForum probably did'nt even bother to log the thread for a reply.

Hi AnnS

I'm sorry to hear of what has happened here. :(

I can assure you that we did log your post, however we are extremely busy at the moment. We have got to your post as fast as we possibly can Ann. We appreciate your help that you give on the eForum and aim to give you the best possible service we can. Unfortunately on occasion the wait time is a little more than we would like.

To look into this for you we are going to need to look into your account. I'm just going to send you an email over in a moment so that we can check where this came from.

Thanks

Wayne

Good Morning to you Wayne,

Wayne its in the past now, I have deleted the message and unscribed from the service.

It seems that with the short code bar, these companies are finding alternative ways to send unsolicited messages to customers.

I dont think I have been charged anything for downloading the message since I did not click on any of the viewing choices at £2.50 each.

Hi Ann

I guess we can look at this as being resolved then, :)

That's great, however keep us posted incase this evil surfaces again, sorry about the Reidarisms (yes...Reidarsisms, my own special way of expressing strong opinion on various issues, I'm hoping to develop it into a forum trend, :)).

Thanks

If you scroll down to the bottom of the message, after the viewing choices at £2.50 each, there should be an option where you can click to stop the 'promotional videos'.

I still have the email which Wayne sent me. If the Admins would like me to reply to it so they can find out where these messages are originating from, please let me know.

Reidar

I think your idea of Reidarism is fantastic, so much so, I have done some feedback supporting you.

So you now have something positive to take to the boss on your next meeting. So, you never know, it might develop into a forum trend !

I would put some smilies, but I hate them.

Thakyou I will have a go when they next send one as I delete them as soon as they come on the phone.
I did ask VF for help but all they would say was that they are only the provider and cant do anything about it and to send STOP to a number, which I did a hundred times with the message returned not sent, I am only on this site for help because VF wont answer calls and I actually let it ring for over an hour twice (they have the records) and now because I told them they were not helping all I get is the engaged tone ( they know its me because I have to put my pass No in). I think a very poor service indeed. There loss when contract is up.

These message cannot be forwarded to VSPAM due to the nature of how they are sent.

The forwarding option is not on the phone menu as it is with with the short code unsolicited reverse charge messages or other spam and you cannot text back STOP since the messages originate from an internet site.

There is an option at the end of the message which you are able to STOP the messages which I did.

Scammers have found a way of bypassing the short code bar which Vodafone introduced last year.

I would have thought Vodafone would want to investigate where these message were coming from which are being sent to their customers.

I have been sent two of these WAP Push messages in the past two weeks. They come into your Messages folder with a 'world' icon indicating it is a WAP Push message. As the link will take you to a web site if clicked, disable your network connectivity (ie put your phone in flight mode) before you open the message to stop it using data services, then open the message, you should be able to see the link within. Mine came from w03.w478.net (then a random identifying string, do not post this anywhere or click on it as it identifies you uniquely and you will get more spam) which I have had WAP Push spam from on previous occasions (previously pornographic links, the latest one was 'Michael Jackson' related)

Can Vodafone do anything to shut down these (German) spammers? I have never signed up for any premium rate services, the phone number they "seem" to be sent from is undoubtedly fake, +77010036646 and there is no option to text STOP as it is a WAP Push message!!

(And I already switched off WAP Push services on my phone, as I had done on my previous phone, but still kept getting these messages)

Any help from Vodafone appreciated!

Helen.

Hey all,

It's disappointing to learn you guys have been spammed with junk/naughty texts :(

Sadly, there's not a whole heap we can do I'm afraid, and as much as we'd love to kick the door down commando-style on some pesky spammer... we can't :(

If you're concerned about premium text charges, we offer a Premium Bar, which can be added to filter them out. The only disadvantage is that if you ever need them for any reason, you'll need to contact us again to get it removed. If anyone is interested in getting this added, please let us know and we'll send you an email to get this sorted :)

Hi,

I too just got one of these 'push messages' unsolicited, also with a URL to w478.net (which appears to be registered in Germany btw).

Surely it is within Vodafone's technical powers to block push-messages with links to w478.net ?

Hi there!

Vodafone can only offer a Premium Bar, and I must admit that they caught me out when I received a similar message from +99............................. I did speak to Vodafone and they have done all that they can, mind you I did not download it. It is the similar to people phone you up on a landline, and say that you have won a cruise and that they need a fee to pay the postage and they require your credit card details - this is a scam on the landline.

Give Vodafone credit, they do everything possible in their power.

If all of the mobile telecoms got together they would still not be able to stop.

I just got done...

(link removed - may be harmful or could incur costs to other customers)

Thinking it was from a friend, I waited till I got home and use my wireless bband (not vodafone) because I didn't want to incur data charges. When I hit the video I was prompted 'Do you want to download to....?' so I hit no and quit. However, I've been charged £5 off my account.

This was unsolicited, as far as I was concerned on my home broadband (at no time did my 3G connect) so it has nothing to do with Vodafone, yet my Vodafone account has been charged without my permission. I didn't even download the damn film.

Needless to say, I'd like this looking into and my account recrediting.

Regards, Lee.

Hi Lee,

I can see from your other thread here that we've already requested your details so that so that we can have a look at this for you.

For future reference for anyone else who may be in this situation, clicking on the link in these types of messages would be classed as obtaining your permission, giving these companies every right to charge you accordingly - although in your case you used your home WiFi Lee, it still travelled from your handset, identifying your number and giving the company concerned the necessary details to charge you.

If anyone else reading this thread finds themselves receiving messages of this nature that they did not request, my advice would be to delete them without clicking on any links.

I'm just glad that my bank are a bit more stringent when it comes to allowing people to take money from my account.

Its fraud and Vodafone are partners in crime taking their share of the proceeds being illegally scammed from their customers.

Vodafone have an unsolicited short code bar which customers can add to their accounts, there should be a bar on the network to prevent customers being scammed by these companies who have found a way to bypass the bar.

Just received another MMS from these silly buggers, and thats after replying STOP when I received the first message. Its got the same long ULR to click on to watch their pathetic videos.

I am amazed that Vodafone cannot do anything to stop these pests sending out these unsolicited, unasked for and unwanted messages to their customers.

I dont want these messages being sent to my handset FULL STOP.
