Hello Everyone,

I'm sure by now you'll have heard about Google's exciting announcement yesterday.

For the most up to date information direct from Google, simply head here: http://www.google.com/phone

If there's a Nexus One question you'd like to ask which is Vodafone specific, please check here first: Google Nexus One on Vodafone

We'll be directing all individual threads about Nexus One into this one, so it becomes the central hub for everyone to come to and discuss this great new product.

If you've got a question we haven't answered, feel free to ask here, and we'll do our best to find out. Please remember though that the FAQ thread above contains all the information we currently have, so we won't necessarily be able to answer your question, and we won't respond to every individual post on this thread like we do in other parts of the forum. This leaves you all free to chat about Nexus One though, so without further ado, please go ahead :)

500mb or 1Gb usage on the web?
Whilst Vodafone may have their faults (as do all mobile service providers) I am glad to remain their customer.

Long may our relationship remain mutually beneficial.

Hey Vodafone Team,

Thanks for setting up this thread. A few questions for you:-

1. In anticipation of a better network and the Nexus One , I (and my friends) switched en masse to Voda's 12month SIM Only deal which states 500mb internet usage per month. Is that limit a "hard-limit" after which extra Mb have to paid for or is it ok to exceed the limit on rare occasions? If you increase that limit would you apply it to existing customers like me?

2. In recent news, O2 stated that their network was affected by data usage from iPhone/Blackberry users. A phone is no good if the network is stuffed. What steps have you taken to ensure capacity for voice and data?

3. Assuming there will be bugs with nexus one (there always will be) perhaps due to network/phone pecularities do you plan to provide software releases and fixes to the Android OS ?

Google US says my Nexus has shipped. I can't wait...!

It would seem that 'Spring' has arrived early for a change:

http://www.pocket-li...odafone-shortly

A few short weeks no less according to this Pocket Lint report! Does that mean I can upgrade my contract slightly earlier than Feb 22nd??

Pretty please Voda!!

If it's not too rude I'd be really interested to see how much taxes and duties it collects once it arrives, perhaps you'll keep us posted :)

Looks like I might hold out on ordering that iPhone then, especially if it is only a "few" weeks.

The one thing that I'm not sure about is how upgrades will work, though, since the phone will only be available through Google's website and not Vodafone (whether it be online, instore or over the phone).

Actually, no, there's another thing I'm curious about and that's how much data you're likely to get. This thing is likely to tear through data and I'm curious if the plans do match the iPhone's 1GB as to whether will be enough to cover it. That, of course, is pure speculation (he says, covering himself ;) )

Also if it comes direct from the Google in the USA then how will VAT and import taxes be calculated.
Will it be based on the value of the phone or the price that you pay after subsidy, as this will make a big difference in the bottom line price?

Q. Will you be selling in Vodafone stores or via Vodafone.co.uk?

A. The Google offer is a new way to purchase a mobile phone so will only be available online through Google’s web store (www.google.com/phone).

How will this work with upgrades?

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this and was waiting to see what the Nexus One would deliver before I made up my mind. Strangely I seem to have done a bit of a u-turn and the decision I've come to has surprised me a bit. I think that I'm going to go with the iPhone. Main reasons:

- Luke-warm Nexus One reviews and no real USP for me.
- The eBook apps for iPhone are much better.
- I'm sick of being bleeding edge. I want something that's stable and works.
- I can integrate straight off with iTunes, yeah I know this can all be got around but it would be nice to plug the thing in type "Rufass' iPhone" and the job's a good 'un. Plus it will be able to handle all the DRM protected Apple stuff we've got.

The speed of the processor doesn't really make any difference to me, the iPhone processor seems fast enough for the thing to do what it's supposed to. The main thing I will miss I think (apart from the notionally cool open-source OS and Apps) will be the free Google turn-based Sat Nav. That's a real selling point for me.

Quick, persuade me not to do it!

I think he's referring to the last HTC phone Vodafone (briefly) stocked.

Hello,

I am a vodafone business user and I have been eligible for an upgrade since November. Does anyone know if I will be able to upgrade to the Google Nexus One and how this would be done?

Also does anyone know contracts are availble for the nexus one for business users?

Regards,

James

Ahh. Thanks for that.
It gets annoying when people hijack threads.

Hi, I'm also curious about how the upgrade option will work, also on a 24 month contract, how many months before the end of the contract are you eligible for an upgrade? I really want this phone, but started a 24 month contract when the magic first came out, so I'm still just over a year away from the end of the contract :( wishing i was on an 18 month one now.

I spoke to a guy at vodafone today regarding an upgrade to the nexus one.

He told me that all contracts would be for 24 months and would be around £35 - £40 a month.
Considering I only pay £15 a month currently for 600 mins, unlimited text & internet upgrading would be a bad deal.

He told me I'd be better off buying it away from Vodafone.

Anyone else heard this about the tarrifs?

It's not an iPhone for starters therefore the world and his dog won't have one.

This thing is backed by Google directly, think about that, they're going to make this work come hell or high water. Any software updates should in theory be pushed out to the handset very quickly as it runs stock android rather than a manufacturers UI (eg Sense). Therefore you'll get all of the improvements almost as soon as they happen. Given Android's relativey short time in existence it's seen quite a few updates so I'd say this is an important feature.

It has a very good 5mp camera which has universally won praise on the few reviews out there. This is something of a watershed moment for Android phones which have so far underwhelmed in this area.

If you refer to the link in my earlier post for the pocketlint article it states that Voda will be offering a 'subsidised' handset in the UK within just a few weeks. That would suggest that the units will ship from here in the UK and direct from Voda rather than the states so no import tax? Correct me if I'm wrong mods?

Processor speed does not a great phone make but at least the tech is current. There's nothing wrong with the iPhone but it's based on almost 3 year old specs now (admittedly with some good improvements for the 3GS). Give it a year and I think the iPhone will start to look a bit dated whereas the NXS1 is in good shape for a while yet.

Think of the FREE sat nav!! :D
