Have you tried a soft reset (turning the phone off and on again)? If you have, try doing a full reset, which us recommended after all large software updates. Remember to back up anything you don't want to lose.mmm

Yes I did power off/on and soft reset with power button and vol +
I presume by full reset you mean back to factory settings?

Looks like there's a new update literally as of today anyway.
Let me know if you get any new issues from that?

Hi,
As the phone was under warranty I got a new one last Friday. Last night it applied the same update that caused the issue before. Lo and behold the button stopped working again. However this morning Nova launcher was constantly crashing so I disabled it. The app switcher started working. I uninstalled Nova and reinstalled and all is well.
