Galaxy S7 Edge WiFi Calling

1: Seeker

Android developers have removed the WiFi calling on the Android Nougat (version 7) update.  It was working fine on my S7 Edge until they updated the OS from Marshmallow (version 6).  Now without it for weeks and Vodafone have been USELESS at understanding and sorting out the problem.  Apparently the only thing we can do is wait for Android to release a patch and there's no sign of that after waiting for weeks. This is causing serious inconvenience.

Here's what won't work (I have tried them all):

  1. Reactivating WifI Calling at Vodafone (tried this three times)
  2. Factory resetting your phone (totally messed up my phone for nothing as it doesn't remove last OS)
  3. Going to a Vodafone shop for a 'patch' (2 hours I won't get back)
  4. Getting a text update sent to my phone by Vodafone.
  5. Turning on Wifi Calling in settings (the option has been removed)

We will be obliged to leave for EE who immediately seem to have solved the same issue.  We only joined Vodafone in September on a very expensive business account to have this feature which I rely on.

Hi @rmrayner

Totally appreciate the frustration this must be causing.

If you perform a forum search there are other similar threads which may hold further advice and information.

It does seem that the firmware upgrade has caused issues.

Calling over Wifi is only available to certain Samsung phones and to those that are supplied directly via Vodafone, and not an independent.

Unfortunately as you've found out a factory reset does only take it back to the last firmware update. Creating a Back Up beforehand should help bring the phone back to what it was like or near as damn it.

You could visit the  xdadevelopers online site to read up on how to go back to the previous firmware, but I must highlight this should only be considered after becoming fully aware of how to flash a Rom, and what the pro's and con's are.

Doing something like that is at your sole discretion and informed responsibility.

The teams at a Vodafone Store have no access to patches for firmware.

What happens is Samsung send Vodafone the firmware.

Vodafone test it out for bugs / stability / network clash.

Then Vodafone sign it off with Samsung.

Samsung then send the firmware out in waves / batches connected to the phones serial number.

Samsung wouldn't be able to engage with an owner over firmware updates either.

I hope this is resolved asap for all those affected.

You need to activate correct APN settings.

Settings - Connections - Mobile Networks  - Access Points Names - ADD

Name - Contract WAP

APN - wap.vodafone.co.uk

Proxy - not set

Port - Not set

Username - wap

Password - wap

Server - http://www.vodafone.co.uk?cid=VOD-HOM-001

MMSC  - http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servelets/mms

MMS Proxy - 212.183.137.12

MMS Port - 8799

MCC - 234

MNC - 15

Authentication Type  - PAP

APN - default

APN protocol - IPv4

APN roaming protocol- IPv4

Leave the remaining 4 settings as they are. Then press 3 dots and save the added APN

Then select the added APN and restart the phone. WI FI calling will appear once new APN embeds and gets registered. I did this on my phone after Factory Reset and Wi Fi calling option appeared afer about 40 minutes and when I go into APN settings the added APN is appearing as embedded thus if you click on it,  you can not change the settings apart from deleting it completely. Hope this helps

This issue doesn't appear to have been resolved with an Android fix so I would like to be able to try the APN settings provided in this thread. My problem is that I created a new APN but it has not been registered on the network. The original Contract APN is still the default and there doesn't appear to be any way of deleting the old APN and forcing the new APN. Any thoughts?

@Fruitbat56 When following the steps provided here, does this allow you to add the new APN settings?

Hi Natasha,

I am left with the default APN which does not include a Server URL as suggested by Jonb. Anyway, I'm not convinced that will cure the fact that the button to turn on WiFi Calling does not appear in any menu.

@Fruitbat56 - If the phone is directly from us, please send us your details by following the instructions in this private message.

Just spent another hour going through the same rubbish with the 'specialist' with no improvement. What makes me laugh is that I try to be supportive by following the steps to look in this menu and that or add a new APN etc. only for the agent to conclude 'this is a known Android global issue and it will be fixed soon'. Why isn't there a big banner on the web homepage declaring that they are aware of it and giving daily updates? Why isn't the person in charge of customer support instructing all agents to make this clear at the start of every call for support? If the manager of the 24/7 helpdesk that I set up for my company performed in the same way as Vodafone is, he would be looking for a new job!

Several e-mail exchanges later and Vodafone are now washing their hands of the problem because I didn't buy my handset from them. Pathetic response.

@Fruitbat56 Thanks for getting back to us. If you didn't purchase the phone directly from us, then you'll be unable to activate Wi-Fi calling.
If there's anything else we can help you with, please let us know :Smiling:
