I'm really interested in getting a Huawei and converting from Samsung but I'm worried about the possible google ban. When will a decision in the UK be made and will it effect existing devices?
I understand your concerns.

From looking at the Vodafone Online Shop a person can now choose the Huawei Mate 20X 5G
My own understanding of this was that Google was forced into looking at how they provide firmware and software uupdates which could be slower than usual to Huawei phones along with which stock apps they would allow to be downloaded onto Huawei phones due to the issues created by the President in the United States which was initially connected to privacy worries etc.
What it was concerning in my opinion was a Trade War i.e. friction between the United States and China.
From recent Media reports this seems to have been revisited by the American President and delayed a decision for another 3 months.
This is statement from Huawei > huawei.com/uk/campaign/huawei-answers.
If you perform a Google Search you'll see lots of media reports and news from blogs etc.

Would I use a Huawei phone ? _ in a heartbeat.

I have a Huawei P20 and love it, however since updating to the newest version of the Android operating system overlay, several of my apps do not work properly, or at all, as the software has not been approved by Google.
For instance, cannot use Google Pay, cannot use Netflix, cannot use fingerprint login in for my banking app.
See my sperate thread in the Android forum.
