Note 8 WiFi Calling

ahep

After waiting weeks for Wifi Calling to be activated on my S8+, I now feel that history is repeating itself with the Note 8.

WiFi Calling is not an option 'out of the box', texting CALLING to 97888 does nothing, all vodafone customer services can tell me is that the service has been activated and are honestly as much use as a chocolate teapot; the inconsistency in information is beyond a joke.

I can't be the only person having this problem.  I have literally no signal at home and little at work, so wifi calling is a must.

Vodafone, is there a time frame for this service to be activated? Seriously unimpressed having paid £200 upfront and £60+ a month on a 24 month contract.

SOLVED!!!!

After amusing myself with the Live Chat guys I rang 191 and found someone who really did manage to help, feels like winning the lottery :Smiling:

He said he was going to "force" the handset by sending and over-the-air configuration update. I was expecting to get one of those config sms messages but nope, no texts, just the lovely, lovely "Vodafone WiFi Call" notification

So, if you want WiFi Calling on your Note 8: call 191, tell the robot "WiFi Calling" and ask the support guy or girl to send a configuration to "update the provisioning" on your handset.

Special thanks goes out to Michael in the Technical Support Team who figured out this issue without wasting time with the usual "have you tried turning it off and on again"

Hi

Thanks for this, I'd just managed to get an agent to do this, came on here to post my findings and saw you had the same result.  This agent, and one earlier today, had originally said it wasn't available on the Note 8.  When I said that it says it is on their website, she didn't even query where I saw it (http://www.vodafone.co.uk/brands/samsung/galaxy-note-8/#Midnight_Black/64), or nip off to look it up; she just said, "OK, I'm going to send a 'silent' config update"  (not to be confused with internet or mms config messages) Low and behold, 20 mins later the option has appeared under "phone->settings->Wi Fi Calling"

I could, sorta, understand missinformation, different answers, etc..: down to poor training.  But, unless she suddenly had a ureka moment, why did she originally try to palm me off?  I smell a rat!

n.b. I don't believe it is related to the eventual fix but: I've been trying to get this working for the last week: countless hours on to support, tweaking/resetting, app permissions, etc...I had toggled the 'WiFi Calling' option on the web portal and texted 97888 numerous times.  Before I made the final, successful, call to support; I checked, and it was in an enabled state on the portal.  Interestingly, she said that it was showing as disabled to her.

Ho Hum

😉

Job well done POSitality : Thumbs_Up:

Seeing as you've  worked a miracle  with wifi calling ...do you mind  picking  some numbers for the Euro millsions tonight for me  :Winking_smiley:

Hi,

Just completed an OTA update on my Note 8. I thought I've only had it a week!  After rebooting, optimising, etc., Wi fi calling appeared in the notification area. Just checked and wi fi calling is enabled under phone settings.

See attached pic.

Not happy I spoke to online chat this morning who told me to get the settings I would have to go to a store....LIE

I think you missed the step Call 191 as the Live Chat guys and girls aren't able to do anything "outside the box" like fiddling with network updates.

When I said "tell the robot WiFi Calling" I meant that, after calling 191, a lady's voice asks you what the call is about and then the AI tries to direct you to the right department.

The Live Chat is for help and information not for actually fixing things despite what Vodafone might advertise the service as.

Well called them as was suggested was told that the Wi-Fi calling should now be on the phone but still nothing anymore suggestions???
