Solution

P10 lite hot-spot problems

Having problems using my p10 lite. Previously had a Samsung S5 and used it as a hot spot for my note Pro and laptop when away. Recently bought a p10 lite and assumed all would be as easy. I have set up a hot-spot on the phone fine. I have Internet connection on the phone. Laptop and tablet both connect to the phone fine but don't get the Internet. I've read all the help files and it should work how it is set up. Can only assume Vodafone or Huawei are preventing me using it as a hot-spot. Any help appreciated

Hi,

I would suggest to speak with customer service and ask them to ensure the hotspot feature to allow tethering on your account is still active.

I have seen in the past that different phones can give different user experience when using the Tethering option.

I can’t see any manufacturer muting such features unless it’s a Network supplied branded phone.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke to customer services and they read through the instruction manual with me doing the same thing I had tried several times.

It seems I can sometimes get online after about 8-9 attempts at turning the hot spot on and off and also the wifi on the device. My wife also has a P10 lite and it displays teh same issues.

SO I can sort of get online with the hotspot but not with any consistency.

@Southyorkshire - As your wife and yourself are both having this issue intermittently, we’re checking if there are any known issues and will be back in touch as soon as we’ve an update.

Thank you, I look forward to hearing back! I think it may be an IP conlict issue as I seem to have found a work around but it isn't an ideal solution. Once my laptop is connected to the phone, and it states connected but no internet, Going into the phones settings >mobile network> access point name looking a the settings for Contract WAP_01 and changing the APN protocol to IPv6 and saving to disconnect the internet and then putting it back to IPv4 and saving again to re-establish the connection seems to sort out whatever conflict is happening. This has to be repeated every time the hotspot is turned on, so not a final solution!

Thanks for updating us with this @Southyorkshire - I've passed this along to our specialists :Smiling:

Once we have any further information, we'll add this to the thread.

@Southyorkshire - Our colleague has tested using the P10 Lite as a Wi-Fi Hotspot, with a standalone machine and a laptop and they're not seeing the same issue. The laptops connect to the P10 Lite’s Wi-Fi and the internet access is as expected.

From the phone side, please check that it’s on the latest software. The current version can be checked by going to Settings - About Phone - Build Number.

It’s also worth trying to reset the network settings. This can be done by going to Settings - Mobile Network - Access Point Name - Options (3 vertical dots in top right corner) - Reset to Default.

Another test is to go to the Access Point settings and to add the APN settings manually, to see if there’s a profile issue.

Please also check if you’re running any security or Firewall software that could be blocking the initial connection (we’ve had someone come across this, where the Wi-Fi connection was blacklisted meaning it could no longer be used for data).

Further to this it’s difficult to say, as from what we can see it doesn’t seem to be a general issue with the phone.

I hope you get this resolved!
