Solution

Slingbox Port blocked

Hi,

First post here Apologies for duplicating it but I think I put it in the wrong category.

Just come over to vodafone from O2 & setting up a Samsung S8

I can't get slingplayer to connect over the mobile connection to my Slingbox M1 which uses Port 5301. No problems connecting via wifi.

Similarly my ipad will connect to my slingbox via wifi but not if I connect it to the mobile hotspot on the phone.

Does Vodafone block port 5301?

As far as I am aware I can't find any way to get into the Slingbox M1 to change the port it uses.

I had a chat with Jason who tried to see what was happening when I tried to use the Slingplayer app on my mobile.

we couldn't get to the bottom of why the app worked on wifi but not using my Vodafone mobile connection.

The port 3501 turned issue out to be a red herring as I managed to fix get my old slingbox Pro-HD which allows port settling and the same problem existed.

In the end I turned off Vodafone SecureNet and suddenly all started working. Interestingly I tested it on my wife's mobile and the same thing happened.

Something in the security software doesn't like the Slingplayer app connecting to the Slingbox.
