Solution

VFD 510 (Smart E8)

I purchased a mobile about a month ago. I then decided to upgrade to a phone one with NFC capabilities. The same store sold me a VFD 510 assuring me that it was NFC capable & even changed the SIM card to NFC.

However, Voda Wallet will not install. Android Pay installs but does not work.

So I returned to the store today only to discover that this phone is not NFC capable, apparently, as they are not really sure. According to the instructions on the website, there is a way to turn NFC on, on this specific exact model. Yet there is no NFC swith under settings.

I have called customer services, spent 35 minutes being passed for one department to another & some of the representatives have not even heard of NFC.  No help there.

So first question, can anyone please tell me if this mobile is or is not NFC able?

Second question, given that I bought the VFD 510, in good faith as a NFC capable phone as told to me by the store assistants, from a customer service point of view, what solution do Vodafone suggest?

Third observation, see attachment, which are the instructions from Voda web site on how to turn NFC on on this make.

Any advice welcome.

It looks to me as though the website device guide is incorrect.   The manual specifically has no mention of NFC in the section on status icons.   Hang on for the forum team to pick up this thread as they may be able to help you.

Thanks Hyrm. Indeed you are quite correct, the website has incorrect information.

I have lodged a formal complaint on the Vodafone web site this morning & finally, customer services got back to me straight away.

Solution is to upgrade to the Smart N8 & Vodafone have agreed to refund the £30 difference.

So a big thank you to Subodh customer services team & Nick in the Crawley store for duplicating the problem & for  your excellent customer service & help.

Hi @bernruss, I've sent this to our specialist team for confirmation of the Smart E8's compatibility with Vodafone Wallet. I've noticed it's not on our list of eligible devices but as @63johnw mentioned it does have the NFC SIM in its specifications

I'll post back once I receive any information from the team!

Edit: I've just spotted your reply @bernruss, thanks for keeping us updated! It's great to see you were able to reach a resolution with our Customer Services and advisers in store. If there's anything else we can help with in the future, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Hi all,

We've had confirmation that Vodafone Wallet will be an option on the Smart E8, however the device we provide doesn't have NFC connectivity so won't be compatible with Vodafone Pay.

We've updated the site since to reflect this in the phone's specifications

Thanks :Smiling:
