A question from an iPhone Virgin

I've had the iPhone 6 for about a month. Loving it. Just one thing I haven't sorted. Notifications of emails. I've been into settings and got it on badge app icon. Show on lock screen. Alert. It works for text and whatsapp. But I do not find out that I have an email unless I open up that app. Then they all appear. Help please. I would like to have the same as I do for text and whatsapp. A number appears on the app shoeing me I have new ones to open.

Hi,

Who is your email provider.
Some offer pop3 or IMAP.

Go into

Settings.
Mail,Contacts,Calendars
Fetch New Data. Choose push or fetch and set the interval.

How are you getting on with the keyboard which was your big fear?

Hi. I have two email accounts. Outlook. That is BT Internet. And Gmail. It was in push. I've now set interval to 15 minutes. Let's see if that works. The keypad I am getting used to as you said I would. I love the iphone6. I have one regret though. That I didn't join the iPhone brigade moons ago.

Push doesn't require a time slot. It delivers emails as soon as they arrive. If your email account doesn't support push it will use fetch and that's when the time interval becomes important. Outlook and Gmail should both support push. Make sure each individual account is set to push.

Hi,

I use Bt mail too on my iPhone 6 Plus.

Here is the set up - not using Outlook

Setting up on Apple (iPhone and iPad)
From your home screen, tap on the Settings icon
From the 'Settings' menu, scroll down then tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Tap on Add Account…
Scroll down and tap on Other
Click Add Mail Account
In the relevant boxes, fill in your BT email address and password, then click Next
Your iPhone/iPad will then confirm it's looking up your email. When it's completed a number of checks, it'll return you to the 'Settings' page confirming your account is configured
Press the Home button then tap the Mail app to download your email
If you're able to receive email but get an error message when trying to send a mail (username and password not recognised) please check the correct settings have been automatically set for the outbound server. To do this:
Go to Settings
Tap Mail, Contacts and Calendars
Tap on your Account - ‘xxxxx@btinternet.com’
Again, tap on your account - ‘xxxxx@btinternet.com’
Scroll down and tap on SMTP
Tap on Primary Server
Check mail server address is set to 'mail.btinternet.com'
Check Port number is set to '465'
Check SSL encryption is set to 'ON'
Changing email settings for the move to BT Mail
If you are having trouble setting up please try these tips:
Check auto-caps isn’t turned on when you enter the password as these are case sensitive
Check you haven’t left any spaces before or after your username or password
Confirm the server settings are being set correctly
