But yesterday it shown up on my partners phone and now he thinks I'm texting someone else. He doesn't have an iPhone he has a Sony. So I can't understand what has gone at all. He got the text from me but I hadn't sent it to him at all I recognise the text but it was sent months ago to a friend who has iMessage I contact Vodfone they said there could be a fault with my phone I'm searching everywhere. It's putting my whole relationship at risk all be cause of this. I have no idea what is going on! I want answers and no one can give them me.

Does the text still show in your sent text messages? If so and it went as an iMessage it would be in blue.

It is possible that you intended the message to go as an iMessage but it went as a normal sms, but that does not explain why it ended up on your partners phone.

What is the timestamp on the message received on the Sony?

@katebadge If you partner tries to reply to the message does it show up as sending to your number?

Since deleting the original message have you done a backup to iTunes? If the latest backup was after sending the original message but before deleting said message you can retrieve the original showing the date by restoring your phone using that old backup.

If you have done a backup since deleting the old message then that option is not possible.

If the old message was still on your phone I could understand some glitch may have resent the message to another contact but as it is not in the phone that seems highly improbable.

Messages do not automatically delete, you have to physically delete them. I have both iMessages and sms messages on my iPhones going back years.

It is no where to be seen on my iPhone at all. It is on his phone that I sent it at 15.45 yesterday I didn't according to my phone it's not there its just randomly shown up on his phone. And it's now causing massive arguments I have no explanation for it. Vodafone said over the phone take it into store there could be an error on the iPhone. But I just don't know I can't find anything.

The network does not keep text messages or the context of them.

Is it possible the friend forwarded it onto your partner ? Although it would not show as you.

I have seen discussions in the past where the phone / SIM card has forwarded on messages to other contacts in your contacts list.

Was the message still in your sent list. It maybe in your iCloud back up as texts are saved in them.

One option to try and troubleshoot this is to ask the Vodafone store to supply a new SIM card via a process called a Sim Swap and to try a new SIM card.

It wasn't in my sent list to the orginal person I sent it to cause it was months ago messages automatically delete after so many days. I didn't know that iMessage was stored on iCloud, this could be a possibility. It's just caused so much arguments and I am completely lost on what to do cause I am as baffled as my partner. Stupid iPhone! Being back the Nokia 3330! Thank you for your help. I shall call in a store and ask them about SIM card swop.

Hi,

Yes they are in the iCloud back up See this Apple Link.

Excerpt from the link.

Here’s what iCloud backs up:

Device settings

App data

Home screen and app organization

iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages (requires the SIM card that was in use during backup)

Ringtones

Visual Voicemail password (requires the SIM card that was in use during backup)

Health data

HomeKit configuration

A SIM card swop can help and if you feel necessary you can also delete iCloud back ups and start your iPhone as a new device if you restore via iTunes.

I hope things clear up with what's happening to your relationship.

I have a setting on my iPhone where messages are deleted automatically after so many days so I can no longer view them just see the number or ICloud address. I haven't back up my phone for a long time I don't bother with stuff like nor have I updated the current upgrade available on IOS. I haven't physically deleted any messages they delete after so many days. Thank you for your help guys I will take it into a store and ask them.

http://osxdaily.com/2014/11/03/delete-old-messages-automatically-ios/ This is what I do to delete old messages of my phone, to save on storage. Done it for years this is what I don't understand. Thank you again.

I do the same by keeping them for 30 days.

I also have iCloud backup turned on in settings-iCloud- back up- iCloud backup is toggled on and then updates when on wifi.
