Huawei E220 Wont Connect

I used this dongle for about 2 minutes with a UK vodafone sim before going on holiday to south africa. Once there I used a South African sim card with no problems at all.
Now I am back in the UK and am trying to use my vodafone sim again and i keep getting the error message " Connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection has closed."

Any idea what the problem can be - I am nearly going out of my head

Thanks

Hello Noonabell

A warm welcome to the eForum, :)

This usually happens when your computer loses its local data (internet connection), local being the UK. In short the sim thinks it's still connected to South Africa, and a network refresh should do the trick.

The best way to do this is to insert your sim (from the modem) into another phone, then try to connect to the internet or Vodafone Live, the phone would need to be a vodafone one or unlocked device.

As soon as this is done you should be back up and running, please let me know if you continue to have any problems.

Thanks

Hi Noonabell,

Due to the error message you’ve received when putting the SIM into a phone, it sounds like your UK SIM has dropped off the network.

You just need to put the SIM back into a phone and perform a manual roam to get this updated. If you’re not sure how to do this, just let me know the make and model of phone you’re using and I’ll get the settings for you. :)

Regarding your modem, I think the best thing to do here is to remove Vodafone Mobile Connect from your computer completely. Make sure there is nothing related VMC in your control panel

Go into programs an features (if Vista) or Add and remove programs (if XP)

Then go into your Device Manager and remove components.

You’ll then need to remove the dial connection from the Network Sharing Centre

Once all of this has been completely removed from your PC, reboot and then reinstall.

You should then be able to use this as usual. :)

All the best

Hello,

The settings can be found here.

When it says network connection, you'll need to select O2 or TMobile etc, then do it again and Select Vodafone.

Hope that helps!

Ok... so i removed all traces of VMC from my laptop............ did the sim card thing in my phone.. tried again...... and got the same message "Connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection has closed."
This definetly worked before I put a different sim card in the dongle so now.............. well I dont know!!
Any suggestions please

Hi noonabell

Getting a bit more difficult now but we will continue to support you :)

Is your USB sim pay as you go or contract?
Did you get an error number with the message such as 619?
Can you try the USB in another laptop and report what happens?

I think we need to see your USB number on the network to start with.

I will arrange for you to get an email after 0800 today. Please respond and this will allow us access to your account.
