Jersey/Isle of Maan call after barring international call

Hi All,

I know calls to Jersey/Isle of Maan etc are chargeable, but should these calls be allowed (and hence charged) if I have barred internation calling on my pay monthly account?

It looks like these are considered internation calls as the call charges to Jersey/Isle of Maan is available in this link http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/costs/calling-abroad-from-the-uk/ clearly suggesting this is considered calling abroad (none of the UK countries are found in this link), and so I would expect these calls should not be allowed if I have barred internation calling, however when I enquired about this on chat with customer care they are claiming this to be chargeabe UK numbers.

The specific number is starting with [Removed] - which as per http://www.area-codes.org.uk/mobile/07452-numbers.php is an Isle of Maan number.

Thanks for your suggestions,

RA

Hi there,

The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands have always been a strange one as far as calling is concerned. They're part of the UK dialling plan but are charged at a different rates. You'll notice for example with Vodafone, they include them as part of the 'free roaming' zone so you're good if you want to travel there but they aren't included in any international package, you can only pay the standard rate.

The problem you have is that the international call barring won't block them as an international call begins 00 and is followed by a country code (that isn't 44), those are the numbers blocked by the barring.

Hi the isle of man is included in your minutes and is not considered calling abroad.

Hi,

Thanks for replying, not sure if you meant it should be part of allowance or do you think it is not considered calling abroad and so is a chargeable non-international call?

Does not look like its part of allowance minutes - as per: https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Account-bill-and-top-up/My-allowance-usage-and-charges/Your-allowance...

"The following are not included:"...

  • "Calls or texts to international numbers, including the Channel Islands (Guernsey or Jersey) or the Isle of Man

Thanks, this is helpful, but I will try my luck another time with customer service with the following argument and let you know how it goes:

Offering free roaming, including it in the list of call charges abroad (see original post) etc point to it being classified as "abroad" for Vodafone purposes, so one would expect international call barring to work (so should not allow calls there from inside UK), I know the international code (+44) is shared, but it is also shared between US and Canada (+1), that does not automatically make them one country.

Thanks
