New router suggestions

Hello,

I'm having a few problems or should I say my teenage son is having some issues when playing on-line. The internet drops out for a couple of seconds which seems to cause him to get kicked off the server's he is playing on. This apprently has a devastating impact on his rank and therefore his life ! I have been down quite a few avenues trying to resolve this issue but to no avail. My final idea is to buy a new router which maybe more stable and have more features on it such as QoS. I believe Vodafone now give out the login details need for this. So has anyone got any suggestions of what would be a reasonable router for a little money as possible ? Thanks in advance.

No problem, hope it all works the way you want it to.

If you need any help with the router just ask be happy to help where I can.

Well it was all a bit boring really just plugged it in selected Vodafone and put in my login details. A few reboots layer and a firmware update and working. Sync speed increased from 7.2mb to 8.8mb and we have had no disconnects so far. A bit early to celebrate but all good so far 😀.

Also haven't messed with any settings yet.

Thanks again

Xbox has been great not a single disconnect so I'm no1 dad. However there has been a couple of issues which I'm not sure about.

1. My wife works from home and logs in via Citrix to a VPN, she can login ok then after a bit her email and network drives don't work. She's still connected and can surf the net though?

2. My TV remote has a Netflix button this now doesn't work and comes up with an error. I can however load Netflix from my TVs app page?

Has anyone any ideas what may cause these issues?

Thanks

Forgot to say when the wife is connection wired it works fine

@arty68

Firstly, we're unable to advise about the Netflix button on your TV remote, you may be able to get more assistance from your TV manufacturer regarding this.

When your wife loses access to her VPN does she notice any loss of internet service just before the connection is broken?

When this happens is she able to reconnect to these services?

Hello,

No there isn't any loss of connection I'm guessing it's some firewall security settings not sure why it wouldn't effect the wired connection though?

It's worth checking the security settings for the wireless.  Make sure it's set up as WPA2-PSK and AES (not TKIP or 'mixed', or 'auto').  These are only relevant to wireless so wouldn't show up on a wired connection.

Thanks for getting back to us @arty68

Can you let us know if you're using the Vodafone router or just the Netgear router?

Thanks

Just the Netgear one the Vodafone one seemed to be the problem. I guess if Vodafone are serious about the home broadband market they should probably look into using a decent router.

@arty68 We're unable to offer support with third party routers - if you switched back to your Vodafone Connect router, we'd be able to provide further assistance.
