Hi

Im just wondering whether anyone else is having problems when using their Samsung Galaxy S4 - my problem being is that when I either receive or make phone calls they literally last 20-30 seconds sometimes I can manage to get approx 2-3 mins but this is very rare, after having the SIM card changed and it my phone being sent of twice by Vodafone this problem is still occurring, I only recieved my phone back on Wednesday and by Thursday the problem occurred again, it doesnt matter what network I ring or which number or if someone rings me the same problem occurrs - Vodafone's solution is to send my phone off yet again even though their last advisor told me I would get a new phone if the problem persisted - I was told I would be rang back in 24-48 hrs and still awaiting the call - however when I put my SIM in an old LG phone I can manage to make & receive phone calls without any problems - this isnt a solution - anyone else having similar problems??

Ok there is a Issue with the S4 and samsung is looking into it

If you like in a strong 3G area set your phone to manually select 3G

Then try again

You can also re log back on to Vodafones network here is the INs. to get you to both Areas

Menu button > Settings >More settings > Mobile Networks

First press Network operators let it find Vodafone

Then next Network mode set this to WCDMA only (3G) then try

Thank you I have tried as you have suggested but the problem still persists after making the changes and even restarting my device afterwards. Any other suggestions?

check

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/our-network-and-coverage/uk-coverage-map/

see if there are any Network reported issues

this could be a Network issue

can you try or do you no any one that has a differant Vodafone to see if it is a Network issue

failing that then its the phone and i would nip this to a samsung service centre and get them to check this out

Hi grekel2,

Thanks for posting. I can't see it being SIM or Network related if when you tested your SIM in another device the calls were fine. This sounds to me like a faulty unit.

I'm concerned that when you sent it in for repair though the problem wasn't fixed.

I'd like to look at the engineers notes from the repair and look at the testing that was done to see if they were able to replicate what you've reported. I've sent instructions on how to reach my team here so we can investigate further. :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

I have had the exact same problem when using my samsung s4, but mine extends to texting as well.  When trying to make a phone call, it will try to call out for a good 30 secs, no ringing tone and then 1 beep and cuts off.  When trying to send a text message, it will try sending for ages and returns as not delivered despite me having good network coverage.  I have taken my phone to the vodafone shop and they realised straightaway that the network bars dropped suddenly, they changed the sim and said if the problem persists it would need to be sent off to samsung. It would be fine at times then it would start acting up again all of a sudden. I am waiting unitl the xmas holidays to take it back and have it sent off, I need it very urgently for sending and receiving e-mails.

On a separate issue am I able to save/backup my email accounts and settings if I decided to do a factory restore?

With regard to your email accounts, no, it won't be possible to save the settings and you'll need to set them up again.  I assume from this that you're using the stock app (the one with the icon that's a white envelope with a red @ one it)?   If it's Gmail or another proprietary app, all you'll need to do is sign in again.

The emails themselves should still be on the server/s, as long as you haven't deleted them or set the app the delete when downloaded.  In other words, they'll re-sync on re-connection, though you may find that everything's marked as unread.

If the data connection's working OK, it doesn't look like a signal issue.  Have you tried turning off LTE in Settings|Networks?

Nov 2014 is this a theme as I have same issues, have change network providers and stil the same so it has to be the G4, all I am told is to defalt to factory settings - of course this is goingto do it?

As it's been a year since the last activity on this thread, it seems likely that this isn't a widespread problem.   The first thing to try would be a factory reset (don't forget to back up your content first).  If that doesn't solve it, you'd be best off contacting Samsung via the Support tab on their UK website.
