Scam call from Chad - will I be charged?

I received a call from number +23 597038572 which is apparently from Chad.

It's clearly going to be a scam (I don't know anyone in Chad) but stupidly I answered it. There was a recorded message saying that they were going to put me through to a finance director and then it cut off.

I'm hoping I won't be charged for an incoming call but is this definitely the case? If so, then how do the scammers profit? Are they hoping to get a missed call then I would then call back so they could charge me? Or is there a way that I can be charged for taking this call?

Unlikely.  It's more likely to have been a phishing call that failed.   If you get a call of that sort, just hang up on it and never give personal details (obviously).   Some will give you a number to call back on which will be the correct one for who they're pretending to be, but they don't actually hang up and just play a dial tone down the line.  You then believe you're talking to your bank (or whatever) and can be tricked into giving information you wouldn't otherwise give.

I had a call from Somalia yesterday. I didn't answer it as @hrym is quite right - let calls like that ring out. If it's a genuine call they'll leave a voicemail.

That's what I thought.  I get a number of scam calls on my landline and haven't been charged for any of them.   When caller display shows "international", I only answer with a curt "yes?"
