If I format the SD card to portable I can put my music on it but can't download apps to it - so am stuck with the extremely small internal storage which doesn't have room for any new apps.
If I format it as internal storage I can download apps to it but when I connect to pc it doesn't 'see' the extra internal storage so doesn't have room for my music.
Is there a solution to this please?
(I thought there was a third formatting option which did allow me to do both but it isn't there any more so has there been a recent update that has changed this or did I imagine it?!)
Thanks.

Hi there
If you are formatting an SD card I am not sure where you are seeing those options. Please could you outline where you are seeing them.
Perhaps you are talking about changing the connection status when you connect the device to a computer?

That's an excellent article that 63johnw has referenced. There are downside to using an sd card as internal storage, but they may outweigh the advantages.
You can't (afaik) download apps directly to the card as you currently have it formatted. The advantage of using it as internal storage is that you can tranfser photos, music and other files to another device by the simple expedient of transferring the card. You won't be able to use any apps that were moved there, so you'd need to delete the files and start again.
To move apps to the card, open each one in Settings|Apps and hit the "Move to SD card" button for any that are compatible and have one. You have to do it one at a time, and download to internal storage first.
