I'm abroad for over 6 months and I'm worried that my "mobile broadband top up and go account" will be deactivated and won't work when I get back.

Hi ravent and welcome to the eforum :)

I understand your concerns, so allow me put your mind at rest.

The PAYT sim you are using in the dongle, operates on the same principles as a regular PAYT sim used in a mobile phone and so when you return after 6 months, it is likely to be a ' semi quarantine' state so it wouldnt work straight away without a Top up being applied.

Once you have applied a Top up on the dongle to get it fully active again and then you would be able to use it as normal. I wouldnt leave it any longer than 6 months though to be sure.

Look forward to seeing you around the forum again soon and enjoy your time abroad B-)

Thanks Claire, my sim still has plenty of credit and I bought it because your site said there was "no time pressure", image of the relevant web page attached, are you saying that there is in fact 6month time limit?
cheers

Hi ravent,

A good question! ;)

What this means is there is no time limit on your top up, as long as you are using the service even if it is only once every couple of weeks you won't lose your credit.

If no connection has been made in 6 months the number will then be recycled. If you have a friend or family member who can use the connection every couple of weeks for you I would recommend doing this as we can't guarantee the number will be active when you arrive back.

I trust this answers your question but do let me know if there is anything else at all! :)

Thanks Kay,
Then your sales text "no time pressure" is untrue and totally misleading, I will refer it to ofcom.org.uk for their consideration as a blatant case of "mis-selling"

Hi ravent

As Claire and Kay have mentioned, the Top Up and Go Mobile Broadband terms and conditions are made up of the standard Pay As You Go Airtime terms and conditions.

There's a lot of information there, but it's Section 6a part 3 in the Pay As You Go terms that states the SIM will be suspended if you choose not to use or top up within 180 days.

I appreciated that you're not happy with this explaination so I'll get one of our team to pop a quick email over to you shortly, if you can reply to this with the details we've requested, we'll be in touch. I just wanted to clarify on here that this is correct. :)

As long as you connect your modem at least once every 180 days, there is no time limit on using your credit, as with a standard Voice SIM. :D

Keep an eye on your inbox, we'll be with you soon

Cheers, Helen

Thanks Helen, I do appreciate now that in the "t+c"s all is made clear (!) but it does not get away from you sales promise of "no time pressure". Is there any way, short of posting the stick to someone in the UK, to keep it live from here in France?
cheers
Richard

Hi Richard,

I'm afraid not. You would need to connect it in the UK once every six months.
