VSS 2 connecting light flashing - for weeks now

For some time now, after a long period of working most of the time, my VSS2 has been unable to connect and has therefore been of no use at home connecting with the 3 mobiles in the family.  The one light adjacent to the power on light is flashing continuously.

Hard reboot seemed not to have any effect.

Having previously worked with BT Internet and their home hub 2, it has been unable to connect for some 2 months now and so I decided to ditch the home hub 2 for a bridged TP-LINK TD-8817 and ASUS RT-N66U router.  The problem persists despite a hard reboot under the new hardware.

Are there issues with the VSS firmware upgrade?

Beginning to think that if I can't get VSS to work what's the point of Vodafone premium pricing when any network will do if home mobile coverage is an across the board no-no!
