Vodafone sure signal dropping out and overheating..

Sure signal box 3, had for 5 weeks working perfectly then at the weekend 3g and signal dropped to no service,, contacted online help to which they said the box is working fine but will re sync, starting to work again after approx 30 min then dropped off to no service again, this has been ongoing all week with numerous phone calls to 191 to which a tech advisor contacted me to say,,that if my phone picks up a signal from an outside mast the sure signal box would then not work?? Say what?? Totally gobsmacked to what I'd just been told (I have this recorded on my phone fortunately) so what he's saying is that a weaker signal from an outside mast takes preference over a full signal sure box, I had a 30 minute debate regarding how ridiculous this was to which I was losing the will to live at this stage as vodafone remained unmoved by the fact that there was not a problem with the box it must be my brand new vodafone smart ultra 6 and the outside mast.

I was told to take to my shop to check the device, on arrival to wellingborough vodafone shop, they said they can't check the device and could not give me a replacement as they had none as they had a recall on these sure 3 signal boxes,, (alarm bells) as apparently there is a problem with them, really would never had guessed that, this is still ongoing atm but been advised by 191 to take back to local shop for a replacement to be sent out, also the unit in question has been alarmingly hot.

Update; thanks guys for replies to post on solutions/options,

Been told by the repair shop that the unit in question was indeed faulty and they have now sent out a replacement and guess what? They never sent out a new one it was a refurbished unit from the repair shop, omg this gets better, so I received a refurbished unit from the repair shop that was obviously there in the first place with issues, surprise surprise this unit does not work either, yet again phoned 191 twice yesterday and today to complain about this issue for one advisor to hang up on me after 20 minutes of waiting and the other just to say they have re synced the unit and will work fine once this has been done, do you guys think I will renew my contract with vodafone? Yes you guessed it, shocking customer care service, shocking attitude from the advisors and tech team so trading standards here I come...

Hi @Lonni

As the Sure Signal Devices have a 24 month warranty if this was my situation I'd definitely take advantage of that.

I hope this is resolved ASAP.

Hi Lonni

The SureSignal units do run around 55 to 60 degrees C externally. It seems to be the norm but still very hot due to the lack of ventilation in the casing.

Regarding the recall the shop mentioned to you, I involved Trading Standards after a number of these units are literally exploding within themselves which is a fire risk, they are also known to take out the fuse or breaker in the consumer unit.

More details on the recall and why can be found here

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/Suresignal-V3-Overheated-Hot-Burnt-out-amp-Dead...

It seems to be affecting units manufactured before August 2015 and as well as the voluntary exchange of any unit blown regardless of Warranty I am currently trying to convince Trading Standards that ALL these units need to be changed whether or not they have failed due to the potential risks when they do.

If yours is tunning hotter than 60 degrees at the top where the lighrd are with ambient temperatures of 21 or less then something is wrong.

It is important to report all failed SureSignal V3 using the links below to:
