Water damage Phone

after my s5 was dropped in the toilet for literally one second it stopped working took the battery cover off and the phone is full of water ..now this is promoted as a water resistant phone ..took it to the store  in leicester and was told can't do anything for you get in touch with samsung ..did so told can't do anything for you its water damaged so have now had to replace the phone at my expense so even tho my water resistant phone was well in warranty i was fobbed off by both vodafone who my contract is with and samsung the supplier so i am now thinking that the part of my £47 monthly bill that pays for my 'free' phone with warranty is now being taken for nothing in return

to say I have to prove it was fully sealed is a joke the phone was full of water it was defective and yes it was sesled propetly ..it always is

But as it is full of water, it would indicate that it wasn't properly sealed or that something had become dislodged as a result of dropping it.  It's your word against theirs in this regard and you can't really win if there is water in the device.

If you have insurance on the device, it may be worth making a claim on that.

yeah i realise it is my word against both samsung and vodafone's both massive international companies so i guess in the scheme of things my word is worth practically nothing and i have no influence on how they treat customers but the facts are the cover was properly fixed the charging port cover was fully closed but it was still full of water and it was subjected to a lot less than these phones     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUP1-0nECXU

Samsung's position appears to be that, if water has got in, the phone was damaged in some way (maybe when it was dropped or previously).   Yours, as I understand it, is that the waterproofing has failed.

If you want to pursue this, you'd need to get an independent report stating that there's no damage and that the phone was faulty from the outset.  You'd then be able to take it from there.   Don't rely on what you find on the internet.   The internet told us the iPhone 6 was bendy,

But as said previously, the jolt could have easily dislodged the covers, allowing water in. I've dropped phones enough times to know that, even if they hit a soft surface, the jolt can cause the covers to come off slightly.  Having said that, there is a Youtube video of someone who deliberately put their S5 in the toilet and flushed it and left it soaking there for about 7 minutes or so... the phone was fine.  The only difference is that the phone was place there and not dropped.

So, do you have insurance that you can claim on?   If you don't have a specific mobile phne policy, it may be worth checking your household insurance as your device may be covered there.  It is worth remembering that a claim on your insurance can result in higher premiums when it comes to renewal.
