iPhone 6 Plus restarting

Anonymous

Hi folks,

I got my 128gb 6 Plus at the beginning of January from Vodafone as an early upgrade and up until the past month or so it's been great. Now, however, it's started randomly restarting itself, locking up when using apps and being generally laggy.

Now, I've tried the usual things like hard reseting the phone using the home and lock buttom combo when it locks up and also fully reformatting the device and setting it up from scratch. This seems to sort this issue for a week or so before it returns. The latest thing I tried was to reformat the device then setting it up as a new phone rather than restoring from a back up just in case it was something in there that was corrupted. Again, sorts it for a few days before the issue returns.

I had a week off work last week so got a Genius Bar appointment and took it in to Apple. Long story short they found "nothing wrong" with it, no crash logs were stored and advised me to again reformat and set up from scratch. Again this sorted it until today where I've had the device lock up on me twice and restart itself once.

I'm getting a bit frustrated now with it. I'm now back at work and not in a position to be going to and from the Apple store with a device that has an intermittent issue that cannot be detected via the Apple techs. I'm just looking on some advice as to where I stand with this one as I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Regards,

Ross

Hi Ross.

It does appear that you have followed most of the generic self help tips.

It can be usual practice for the Genius Bar people to advise what they have ,but now that you have followed said advice and the issue still remains ,I would suggest making a 2nd appointment with  and ask them to swap the unit out as a mutually reasonable solution to the issue.

Sorry to hear your having these issues with your iPhone.

Hello Ross,

In addition to bandofbrothers post above there were some issues reported with the iPhone 6/6Plus in the 128GB variants late last year due to the different kind of memory controller used in those devices.

As your phone isn't fit for purpose I'd quote the Sale of Goods Act when you visit the Apple Store again.

Most of the Genuis Bar folk are reasonably helpful so they'll likely swap your iPhone over for you.

Without sounding patronising back everything up to your computer/iCloud before swapping it over.

Cheers guys. I had my Genius Bar appointment on Sunday there and I'm happy to say they swapped over. The had ran some tests and a few things apparently flagged up that pointed towards the hardware being at fault.

Pleased you got it sorted in the end.

Have owned iPhones since the 3G (bar the 3GS) and I've (touch wood) only ever had defective handset in that time.
