the online chat team offered me it when on data test drive   but have now back tracked

Vodafone doesn't have any unlimited data tariffs - only calls and texts.

Unless you retained a copy of the chat transcript Vodafone will be able to claim  the' offer' does not exist.

Certainly I have never heard of such an offer and if other people had received it and then Vodafone had backtracked I'm sure that there would have been many posts on these boards complaining.
