Broadband Channel

I signed up to Vodafone broadband in December and was promised a minimum speed of 28mb/s. The best we've achieved so far is 17.77, which is a fair bit slower (though is exactly the same as we used to get with BT) It has been suggested that I change the channel, which I have done, though this makes no odds. I've used a couple of WiFi analyser apps both of which have suggested channel 14 (on the 2.4ghz frequency) would be best; however the router will not let me set it to channel 14. Does anyone know why this is please?

Channel 14 is a reserved channel and cannot be used with any equipment. In theory using channel 14 could cause disruption with emergency services, military etc.

That explains it, thank you.
