Activation failed. Phone works but no Internet.

Took a new contract with Vodafone.

Activation was meant to be 2 days ago. The Internet light on the router changed from red to flashing white and has continued like that for the last couple days.

Phone works OK.

I've also tried an openreach modem and direct wired connection to my laptop but no joy.

What actually happens during activation? Having tried 2 sets of hardware it must be an issue at their end but I don't know what the process should be.

I've spent hours on live chat and they're useless. Endless requests to reset the router and promises it'll be fixed in 24 hours.

Apparently it has been escalated to team 2, whatever that is, but still not working.

I hate Vodafone.

Just thinking... The modem I have also tried is a BT Openreach 061513 model. That should work with VDSL right?

Its the Superfast 2 I went for, and I think previously I've only used it with ADSL.

They are being sold on ebay as VDSL so probably.

I just logged onto the router and ran the diagnostic test (is that what you mean by log?)

Not quite, but it shows what I suspected your modem is not being authenticated. I really don't know how Vodafone can confirm everything is O.K.!!!!

The log is under Status&Support - Event Log. I think it will probably show CHAP failures.

I would ring then again and hope you can get someone helpful next time... It really shouldn't be this hard to get a problem solved.

Ah, I wasn't in Expert mode.

Here is the output of the log. Doesn't really mean much to me tbh. I'm not too sure why the date says 5th Feb when it hadn't even been plugged in then? Probably nothing to do with it.

Interesting, there is another thread with those errors, but they were trying to use it with a 4G dongle,

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Broadband-connection/THG3000-VOX-3-Gigabox-and-4G-dongle-compatibili...

You don't have anything plugged into the USB ports do you?

I would try doing a Factory reset via the Settings - Configuration menu.

The time is wrong because it hasn't connected to the internet yet.

Nah, nothing is plugged in at all. Literally just the internet wire.

I'm back on the phone with the idiots again but once I'm done I'll go for another reset through the settings menu. Can't hurt!

Couple of extra thoughts for when you come off the phone.

Have you checked the 2nd USB port for something plugged in? (under the slide off cover)

What happens if you power it up without the internet cable connected. Should just flash red.

You said you tried with BT modem, but that will require a separate router and your internet credentials, do you have them?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Checked the hidden port and nothing is plugged in.

Turning on without the Internet cable gives a flashing red, yes.

For the bt modem, I had thought a direct wired connection to the modem would just work? However I also tried with an Asus rt ac68u using the login details given by Vodafone. I even asked a different person on chat in case they got them wrong first time.

Latest phone call was a waste of time. Went through the same motions of reconfiguring router then factory reset. No change. I also did the reset via the settings menu.

I'd had high hopes for that.

I'd suggest a possible faulty Vodafone Hub, but then the Asus/BT modem combination should work.

I'm all out of ideas, lets hope someone else can come up with something.

Well I appreciate your efforts anyway!

After a bit of reading it appears the ACS is the Auto Configuration Server and if it is waiting for it but getting no response, maybe is as simple as a break in the connection. How do you connect to the telephone socket?

Do you have a filtered socket or are are you using a plug in filter.

Have you tried connecting to the test socket with a filter.

Just clutching at straws here, I still think the problem is with at Vodafone's end.
