Connected to WIFI but no access to internet?

I have just had a switch to Vodafone, engineer has fitted in my router and spent hours outside making sure the lines were good. I have been able to connect and I have the WiFi symbol above however, I have no access to the internet. Google does not work. Messages do not send. Netflix etc. Have tried connecting to other devices including my TV. Same issue for all of them. Connecting but no internet access. All the correct lights are on the router. Anybody got any advice?

I'm taking the 'been able to connect means all passwords etc are OK and you haven't done exactly the same typo on everything like I absolutely never have done ever...

Have you gone through the mandatory content-filtering page? This in theory is all you get from trying to look at any external site until a filtering selection is made. Tell it 'no filtering' and it should never bother you again.

Why is it the case with this WiFi and never any other...

where do I find this mandatory filtering page on an iPhone and on my tv because I have zeroooo clue :Laughing_Face:

The filtering page is one that in theory is the only thing that appears in your browser until you make an actual selection as regards content filtering of websites for adult content e.g. sex, drugs, rock'n'roll etc. The workings of it are such that things that use non-website services (background stuff like clock/time sync) are also blocked. This also affects the router itself which can have trouble working properly until its own internal clock is set.

At a guess, said page was not mandatory last time you changed ISP.

 

Or it might not be this at all! Is it only with wifi devices, do you have any wired devices that are behaving differently?

 

What are you getting on the various screens that's telling you that you are not getting anything? The specifics if not glossed over by user-friendliness should hint at the general direction of the problem.

 

Hi again, I have never had a filter on so I highly doubt it will be this. Especially as I can not even type in google without it telling me it couldn’t open the page because it couldn’t connect to the server. 

I have tried my Netflix and it won’t even let me log in straight ‘cannot find network connection’ yet I am connected to the internet.

The content filtering page is imposed by the ISP and will be new if you changed ISP since it became a requirement. It will not have been imposed by your previous ISP as it applied to new connections only.

 

If you are just getting a failure and nothing like a content filtering page then this might not be your problem. That said, it's worth noting that 'connected to the internet' and 'cannot find network connection' are quite unlikely to be both correct at the same time!

 

Can you at least get to your router admin page? Just to be sure the lights aren't fibbing.

i am literally able to connect to my WiFi. From the WiFi page on any device. However, when trying to access anything or sending a message. I am unable to do so due to me ‘not being connected to the server’. 
so on my phone if I put the WiFi on. I get a nice little WiFi icon at the top of my screen but it does not actually work. 

could it just be a faulty router ??

It's possible something is wrong but first you should try to get to the router admin page to see what it says.

This shouldn't work, but just humour me here.  In the routers admin pages change the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1, save and then turn the router off.  leave it off for 30 seconds and then turn it back on!

Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 12 September 2156 16:35:00
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

 

Looks like 5 values, but the subnet mask is usually automatic.

Because you have connected to the router then the 

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.77(Preferred)

DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

 

 two will have been allocated.

 

THE DEFAULT GATEWAY IS THE NEXT MOST IMPORTANT.

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

 

DNS lookup may be side-stepped if you put in a valid IP address.
