Solution

Connection or router dropping off every hour

Hi all

I’ve been connected since the 22nd of December 2020, and since that day the connection hasn’t work properly a single day. The router / connection drops off every hour on the hour. I’ve had four visits from open reach; 1st visit the engineer switched the line the router was using in master socket, 2nd visit a new master box was fitted, third visit a whole new line was out in from the road and the 4th visit the engineer switched the line in the green box. Still hasn’t sorted the problem.

I understand the router actively modifies the connect to maintain a stable connection but this is clearly not working as the problem persists. When active the line is good and I get a fairly decent speed. But to drop off every hour is so frustrating. The light on the router all flash white (no red) so the connection coming in is fine but clearly the router is either faulty or incapable of working with the line with its software.

Would a third party router eliminate this issue?

Hi @andypretty, I'm sorry to see the previous Engineer visits haven't resolved things with the dropouts you're seeing each hour.

If you haven't already, please drop us a message on Facebook or Twitter where we can access your account securely and help to prevent this from happening. We'll also be able to take a look through the Engineer's latest findings and any updates following this from our Technical team.

If you include your Community username when messaging us, along with the link to your post here, you won't need to write out your query again and we'll get started.

Hi Tash

I’ve just received a new router, hope this solves the issue.

thanks

Andy

Are you saying all the lights flash? If it was a line fault I would only expect the internet light to flash.

How do you recover, do you have to power the modem off/on or does it recover on its own?

Were you with another ISP previously and this problem only started when you moved to Vodafone?

I’ve just received a new router, hopefully problem resolved. But for reference sake; yes all lights flashed, but only white. Only way to resolve this was to switch off the router. Then it worked fine.

Hi Andy, I appreciate this is a long time ago but this issue has been happening to me since Tuesday! I’ve been with Vodafone for 3 almost 4 years now and I’ve changed nothing. Randomly on Thursday my internet cuts out for about 2 minutes every hour (00.19, 01.19 etc). Engineer scheduled for Tuesday. Did the new router help?
