BROADBAND SPEED TEST

Broadband Speed Test. What do you get?

I pay for 65mb and get 10mb download and 0.4mb upload. I asked Vodafone for help and was basically told tough luck, blame Openreach. There seems to be an endemic miss-selling of broadband in the UK. They said they could help me by reducing their liability of service by reducing my service to 25mb with the benefit of paying about the same but with the added benefit to vodafone that they don't need to give me a 15% discount for a crap product. If you buy Broadband that uses Openreach changing service provider will not make much difference as it uses the same network. If I had known this earlier I would not have bothered moving to Vodafone. I feel I have been scammed.

You do have the right to complain using the ADR (Alternate Dispute Resolution service). You'll find a link at the bottom of this page under "How to Complain".

It's worthwhile though knowing exactly what the problem is!

First up is to check the sync speed - you do not pay for a sync speed your contract is for a download speed - you can normally check this by logging into the router web admin normally at http://192.168.1.1

If that is okay, then you need to see what the results from the various speedtest web sites such as http://fast.com http://www.speedtest.net and http://www.https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest are like - remember you want to be looking at the test site nearest to you if given the option.  You need to check these while using a wired connection, not WiFi!

If those last figures are good, but you are getting poor WiFi, then it's going to come down to the lacklustre performance of the router, or even your devices.

You might also want to look at: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/telephoneHome This can be useful, just to check that you are provisioned for the correct service - incorrect provisioning does happen!

Vodafone does currently have a problem in some areas with insufficient provision back to their servers in some areas.  If this is what is affecting you then everything up until the speed tests should have been fine.

*The inverse can happen - the cabinet I'm connected to is now listed as only supplying up to 30Mbps,  Which our 49Mbps makes a bit of a mockery of!

Let us know how you get on - and we can probably give you more advice once we've a little more info!

Went to          https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL       website and my local Openreach box supplies only 22mb download and 0.5mb upload. If only I had known I would not have bothered changing to vodafone. Exchanged one crap service for another. Any suppliers using Openreach and I'm stuffed. Logged into the admin of the broadband and it indicates VDSL 21.5mb/0.5mb. Shame Vodafone does not do real broadband fibre instead of half baked impression of it. I think there is only one suppler of real broadband fibre and that would be Virgin. Friends in Norway and Sweden get 21st century 1000mb as standard while we in the UK are stuck late 20th century copper wiring. Trying to work from home is very inefficient and slow in my area. If I had the option I would cancel the account if there was not a penalty. An upload speed of 0.5mb is pathetic. Very disappointed and beyond the control of Vodafone. Vodafone were right, blame it on Openreach and their sad pathetic copper wiring network from the late 20th century.

Hi

I was with Virgin on their 20th century copper wiring, it still comes into the property, and I suppose if I return to Virgin, then the 20th century wiring is what I will be stuck with also.

"Shame Vodafone does not do real broadband fibre instead of half baked impression of it. I think there is only one suppler of real broadband fibre and that would be Virgin."

Wrong - most of Virgin's network is still copper from the street cabinet to the house, fibre back to the Virgin network from the cabinet, the same as most Openreach based ISPs, copper from the cabinet to your house, fibre from that cabinet to the Openreach network. Virgin is rolling out pure fibre in some areas.

Openreach is also rolling out FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) in most areas of the UK (which will be available to most ISPs), and Vodafone do provide real fibre to the house in certain cities, via an exclusive use of CityFibre's network, called Gigafast.  https://www.vodafone.co.uk/broadband/deals/gigafast

Hi @carl1965 Slow internet speeds can be frustrating, but there are steps we can take to try and help you improve these 😊 I'd recommend reaching out to our Social Media team here,  They'll be able to go through a few troubleshooting steps with you and run some line tests to help get to the bottom of this issue.
