Gigafast Slow Speeds

Hello All

I have had the vodafone Gigafast 900mb service in Milton Keynes now for about 3 months and am getting only 500-600mb download speed on my PCs. My router is detecting the speed at 1000mb.

I have had a vodafone tech out but they have said that it is a known windows 10 issue.

I have updated all of the LAN drivers on all 3 of my PCs and replaced all of the network cables with Cat6, I have even upgraded the rubbish vodafone router with a Top of the Line Netgear XR500 but am still getting the slow speeds.

On the plus side my upload is around 1600mb

Has anyone else had this issue or any ideas on how to rectify this please.

I really dont need that much speed but as im paying for it it would be nice to get it working

Thanks Marc

Hi Marc

What are you using to determine those speeds? Speedtest is renowned for not being accurate! How about looking at running iperf from your machine to a public iperf server. What do the results for that look like?

can seem to get this iperf to work 😞

Got it working now 🙂

its telling me that im getting 250mb lol

the prompt im using is iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de

The above command would measure the upload speed.

For download speed, you need to use the -R option also.

iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -R

-R, --reverse run in reverse mode (server sends, client receives)

Download the binaries (win 10, 64bit, for example - https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php#windows)

unzip, open a command prompt and switch to where ever you unzipped the file, ie.  C:\Users\matth\Desktop\iperf-3.1.3-win64

the run the command:

iperf3.exe -c iperf.volia.net  (you can select alternative servers if any are busy from the list here: https://iperf.fr/iperf-servers.php)

Wait for the results:
