Just signed up for 150Mbps and getting 94Mbps

Hi,

Engineer came in and installed a fresh FTTP line into our property, measured noise on which was -17db so he said these are good for easy 1Gbps.  Hooked everything up and tested from the LAN port via Cat5e and only getting 94Mbps.  I complained to Vodafone and they said they're "still setting things up" and to wait around 72 hours.  It's still 94Mbps.  Conveniently, it's above the minimum guaranteed which is 74Mbps, but I paid for 150 on a line that's capable of 1 gig!

I went into the admin settings of the Vodafone router and I can see that all the LAN ports read "100 Mbps" next to them, as if it's capped at that.

What should I do, as I think VF are in the wrong here and I feel a little cheated!

Contact VF help desk because the LAN ports should be 1Gbps.

Meanwhile you could try doing a factory reset.

There's a fault with either the ONT (unlikely) , the cable (most likely), or the router's WAN/LAN ports. Even with a 75Mb service the connection would be 1Gb.

Are you sure the device you are testing with has gigabit ports, many older devices are probably 10/100 only.

So that was an interesting call with VF "technical" support.  I explained the extensive testing that I've done this evening by determining the Wi-Fi built in to the VF router gave me exactly 150Mbps on the dot, yet plugging a Cat5e cable to the back in the LAN port yields 94Mbps tested on a 1Gbps NIC.

They say they are in no position to give me a replacement router for whatever reason as there is nothing wrong considering I am getting over the minimum 75Mbps quoted... even though I tried to explain the fibre line is FINE it's Vodafone's equipment that is effectively capping my LAN output to 100Mbps.  I think you may be right about the networking ability of the router being only at 10/100... which means I'm cheated out of an extra 50Mbps and there's not a jot VF want to do about it.

@cpcpeter You can test the LAN ports with a PC. I don't have the same router as you, but are there any LAN settings for the port speed? Is there anything interesting in the router logs?

I have the THG3000 but I am not using it.

@cpcpeter connect two of the routers LAN connectors together, and see what they report.

Not sure how connecting the LAN ports will help as I can’t make sense of the error logs anyway, but thanks for the suggestion.

I’ve bought an aftermarket router and see where it takes me when it arrives!

@cpcpeter Post a bit, let's say no more than 30 lines for now, from the router log most recent entry. There are a few on here who may make something of it. Do remember to erase anything personal.

As curious as I was to find what was wrong with this Vodafone router, my third party replacement one gave me the full 1Gbps throughput and I had the 150Mbps on my mesh system via the LAN, so we'll call that a kind-of-win.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
