Digital Voice - Handset Dead

Hi.

I have transferred from Sky to VF inc digital voice line.

I have FTTP working with the supplied powerhub. The phone LED on the back of the hub is green and will flash when I call the number.

However there is no dial tone or ability to receive or make calls from the connected handset, it is completed dead. I have tried multiple cables and handsets but all are the same.

What am I missing! Tried the cable in both the green TEL 1 and TEL 2 ports. Have also reset the hub.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Hi @OMS2000M - thanks for reaching out to us here. If you still don't have a dial tone and you're not able to receive calls, then please contact us on 191 free from a Vodafone mobile or 08080 034 515 from a different line. We can then run through some line tests and go through some checks with you.

@Gemma I believe the poster just needs what vodafone call the "voip adapter", which should have been provided with the router.

Thanks @Ripshod - If you don't have this @OMS2000M  - then please reach out to us on the above number.

Thanks. VOIP adapter being posted to me by VF. Hopefully that is the fix.

Why does an RJ11 to RJ11 cable not work? Why is an adapter required?

Thanks again.

Very often the third "bell" wire is needed, but the rj11 leads only have 2 wires. The voip adapter contains a capacitor to provide this bell wire. A 4 wire rj11 may work, but best to do things the right way first.

It's because some phones use a different pair of pins at the telephone end. The original BT style cable supplied with the phone does the cross-over but the DSL cable can't do that.

If it was the lack of the ring capacitor, the phone would work, but just not ring.

See this previous thread:

VF supplied VOIP adapter fitted.

incoming calls now work and phone rings.

Still no dial tone and outgoing calls do not work (landline handset timer starts to run as if connected but it isn’t even ringing my mobile) - any further ideas?

Due a follow up call from VF on Saturday.
